Dream a little dream

Darc and I were dreaming the other day, about the places we’d go if money were no object.  We’re pretty much in agreement that we really have no desire to visit any foreign countries.  Not just because of the whole pain the butt of plane travel, but because we really like it here, and want to see more of our own country.

We thought a lighthouse tour would be nice, traveling around to many of the lighthouses around the coasts of the nation, from Maine, all the way around to Florida, Texas, up to Oregon and Washington.

I’d like to do a Patriotic tour, visiting historical places like the monuments in Washington DC, places up in Boston, and of course Philadelphia.  The Smithsonian too would be fun, and the Library of Congress.  Mt. Rushmore.

Then there’s fun places like Tombstone AZ, and the Alamo.

Maybe parks like Yellowstone, Yosemite, and the Sequoia National Forest.  Of course the Grand Canyon.

The big one for both of us I think is the New England Fall Foliage tour.  Both of us long to see the colors of autumn in New England before we die.  I think we’d start in W. VA in the Smoky Mountains and just meander up north.

There’s so many places to see here, places we’ve never been, or have been and would like to go back with our kids, that it’s impossible to think of them all right off the top of our heads.

If money were no object, where would you go and what would you like to see?

  1. I’ve visited Washington DC. Thomas Jefferson was upset that people were always going to Lincoln for advice. I asked Jefferson for advice. He wasn’t much help.

And what did you ask Pres. Jefferson?

In Philadelphia, would you lick the Liberty Bell?

    Uh, NO.

If money was no object, I’d do a tour of all the castles and monuments in the British Isles and Ireland and Normandy. I would love to visit Skara Brie (sp?) up in the Orkneys and the Canadian monuments in Normandy for the great wars.
I really love medieval English history. I would love to see the Saxon timber castles (if any still remain) and the old Catholic cathedrals that have been whitewashed during the reformation and only recently have been slightly restored. It’s very interesting to see the two polar opposite views of how to worship God in one space. All the tombs at Westminister and the tombs in northern France of the Norman kings. The castles in Wales. The castles in Ireland. The Guinness brewery. Oh, do a tour of all the whiskey distilleries.

If I was to do a foreign tour, Ireland is where I’d go. The castles, naturally, where my ancestors once lived. You knew I was royalty, right? Oh shut up, it’s about the dreaming!

And I would have to go to 23 Heddon Street and pose for a photo. Too bad the building front is very different today as it was in 1972, but still, the pilgramage must be made.

I had no idea Ziggy Stardust was a pilgrimage kind of thing.

Okay, I would need a buttload of money to do this, but that’s the game, right?

That, sir, is indeed the game, and thanks for playing! :D

  2. I used to dream of visiting the Big Apple, but lately I’ve been thinking of France or Italy or Spain. I’d also like to finance an archeological dig in Central or South America. That counts, right?

Ooh, a dig! Now there’s an idea! What kinds of things would you be looking for? Dinosaurs? Ancient civilizations?

    • Cultural things. Maybe find out how and why the Olmecs (or whoever) made those huge heads and buried them.

That sounds cool – like the Easter Island heads and the Nazca lines. Those have always interested me.

  3. In the US: The Civil War battlefields, the Arizona desert, New York City, & New Orleans. Foreign places: Rome, Paris, London & Masada.

Civil War sites! Cool! I was thinking maybe Revolutionary sites, but the Civil War ones would be cool too.

Masada – now that one caught me off guard! That bit of history always fills me with conflicting emotions – sadness and a sense of pride. Death before defeat! But how sad to die.

  4. If money were no object, I’d go everywhere. Well, that isn’t true. I’d stay clear of Darfur and places with spiders bigger than my head.

Yeah, I’m with you on the anti-spider thing! I’m still leery of AZ with their tarantulas.
