A funny thing happened on my way to my stats page. Somewhere along the way between Sunday and Monday, someone posted my LOLFaves page to StumbleUpon. I didn’t even know until late in the afternoon when I finally got online and went to check on my blog stats. “Something’s wrong with WordPress,” I muttered to Darc. I refreshed, thinking there must be a glitch, there’s no way my numbers are that high … and it came up in the thousands again. Yes, you heard that right – thousands. All to my LOLFaves page, where I’ve done nothing but post some of my favorite LOLCats and LOLDogs pictures.
I confess, I felt a little queasy. I don’t know why. Yeah, I know that’s weird, especially for someone like me who’s been called a “traffic whore” on more than one occasion. I’ve been cruising along with respectable hits, maybe a hundred a day, so to see a number approaching 4,000 was a little disconcerting. I’m just not used to popularity in any form. I know it’s a one-day-wonder kind of thing, but I still feel kind of funny. So many people looking at me! And it’s not even anything I’ve written, it’s just LOLCats stuff! I can’t imagine what I’d do if it’d been a regular blog post. Well, now you all know how weird I truly am. I’ve never been a limelight sort.
So I did a little research and signed up for an account on this StumbleUpon, and thankfully, they have a FireFox Add-on for their toolbar. Now I’m going to start adding all of YOU to StumbleUpon when I visit your blogs, to spread the love. I think they have a friend service thing there too, so if you sign up, I’m DarcsFalcon (naturally).
Now back to my regularly scheduled obscurity.

I thought a traffic whore was a woman who walks upto cars with open windows and asks the driver if “he likes to party.”
Apparently, I was mistaken.
No, that’s just a regular plain old whore. A traffic whore is something completely different. Completely. There may even be a support group.

Wow, that’s a lot of effing hits. I used StumbleUpon a while back, but they seemed to cycle through the same sites over and over. I’ll have to go check it out again.
A lot of effing hits indeed. I was stunned. Still am! I faved you there.

do you register your own blog on there?
I think you can … what I’ve seen so far is that you can “fave” or “don’t like” sites you visit. It’s much like Condron but it’s customizable.

My art blog usually gets only a handful of hits a day at best, but on the 4th of July it got 129. Now, I know that is nowhere near 4k, but the big jump really startled me. It’s like I wanted to lift up my laptop and check underneath it for strings or something. Silly.
Wow. 4k. That’s wild.
It’s disconcerting, isn’t it? It’s like you’re walking through a mall where no one even notices then, then all of a sudden you feel like you’re on a stage and everyone’s looking at you.
Yeah, wild indeed!
