I had the strangest dream the other night.  In it, I was standing on this pier.  I’d taken a cab or something to get there.  When I arrived, I stood waiting on a dock.  There was a lady, touristy type, standing next to me and she said with a friendly smile, “Oh, I believe that’s your ship dear.”  Then I saw the ship.  The biggest ship I’d ever seen.  It was ginormous.  One of those huge cruise ship things.  It was white, and had a wide sky blue band running along the side.  On the band, in big white block letters was the name of the ship.  It said, “Economic Recovery.” 

Most people just use the term figuratively, their ship came in.  I have to be teased and dream about a literal ship coming in.  *sigh*

Speaking of dreams, mine have gotten kind of weird lately.  With few exceptions – like the ship one, and one I dreamed of about my childhood house, I’ve been dreaming in what I have come to call “Medium mode.”  Yep, my dreams now look like episodes of Medium, complete with me being played by Patricia Arquette, and Darc being played by Jake Weber.  It’s doggone annoying, I can tell you that.  Nothing against Jake Weber – he’s got his good points.  But Darc is way better looking.

The childhood house dream, you ask?  Would you believe, I didn’t even go in it?  All the years I’ve dreamt about that house, I’ve never not gone in it.  This time I went into a neighbor’s house, and watched mine from across the street.  Watched my family, 1970s version, living in the house.  How bizarre is that?  The kid who lived there, I had a little crush on him when I was like 7, and he used to chase me on his bike.  He and his family lived in the house across the street from my house for years and years, long after I moved away.  But in the dream the kid was in his 20’s or so, much as he was the last time I saw him.  In real life he was 2 or 3 years older than me.

At least I can say my dreams are interesting and entertaining, right? 

I wasn’t quite sure what I’d find when I did a search for turkey shoes.  You know, because it’s Thanksgiving this week.  I couldn’t go without some kind of shoe tribute. 

I found this pair of tennis shoes that’s actually kind of cute.  I like the yellow.  And the polka dots.  You could wear these to Thanksgiving dinner. 

After dinner, Dad could relax in style in these turkey slippers.  Watch some football, have another slice of pie.  With ice cream.  

And for those folks who don’t want to sit around watching football after dinner, you could go bowling in these turkey bowling shoes and be the envy of everyone at the lanes. 

See?  Something for everyone. 

The Patriots won today, woo!  And now I’m trying to pull a blog post out of thin air.  I should visit that site my husband gave me, the one for inspiring blog ideas.  Creativity Portal.  

Okay, here’s my prompt:

If I could be any age, what would it be — list 10 reasons why

This is actually kind of funny because Darc and I have had conversations that sort of revolved around this.  Our take on it though is more of a time travel thing.  If we could go back in time and start from there, where would we start from?  We’ve also had the one where we wonder what we would tell our younger selves if we could go back in time and talk to ourselves then. 

I don’t think I could give 10 reasons why I’d be any age.  I’d be 17 because I was hot, and really, who doesn’t want to be hot?  Yeah yeah, David Crosby thinks I’ve let myself go.  I’d be 13 because that’s before a lot of crap happened in my life.  The money question is, would I be able to undo it, at 13, when I couldn’t stop it from happening in the first place?  That one’s sort of like betting $20 on the instant replay.  I’d be 5 because life was damn simpler then.  But Mr. Rogers is and will remain, awesome, whether I’m 5 or 95.  Dingdingding Trolley!  I’d be 29 and keep my brother from dying.  Could I keep my brother from dying?  Highly unlikely.  It’s not like he asked my permission or discussed it with me.  I take that back.  He did discuss it with me.  I said no.  He ignored me.  So again with the instant replay.  Pick an age, any age, and there are good and bad reasons for being that age.  

One thing that’s always constant though is that I would never want to forget what I know now.  That’s always a given with any kind of hypothetical time travel thing – always keep what you know.  Which begs the question, if you could go back in your life and undo certain events, would you then forget why you’d gone back in time in the first place?  I think you would, because if you changed something and made it so it never happened, well then there’s nothing for you to remember, right?

Exercise for people over 50

Begin by standing on a comfortable surface where you have plenty of room at each side.
With a 5-lb. potato sack in each hand, extend your arms straight out from your sides, and hold them there as long as you can. Try to reach a full minute, and then relax.
Each day you’ll find that you can hold this position for just a bit longer. After a couple weeks, move up to 10-lb. potato sacks. Then try 50-lb. potato sacks.
Then eventually try to get to where you can lift a100-lb. potato sack in each hand, and hold your arms straight for more than a full minute. (I’m at this level.)
Once you feel confident at that level, put a potato in each sack.

“Well,” said the Director, “we fill up a bathtub.  Then we offer a teaspoon, a teacup and a bucket to the patient and ask him or her to empty the bathtub.”

“Oh, I understand,” I said. “A normal person would use the bucket because it’s bigger than the spoon or the teacup.”

“No.” said the Director, “A normal person would pull the plug. Do you want a bed near the window?”

Anything you want to read about on Monday?

Yes, WIGSF, it really is Thursday today.  One more day to go!

This week I’ve been thinking about bread.  I made some this week, by hand, yes I did, and it felt pretty good.  Here’s the recipe if you’re interested –>>  Farmhouse Loaf.  It turned out pretty good, although I’m going to use a different oil next time.  I made it to go with a stew I made and it was one of those nice comfy meals. 

Anyway, it got me to thinking about how good it made me feel just to make bread for my family.  Sure, I used to have a bread machine years ago, and those are pretty cool.  But there was something about doing it by hand that made it somehow much more satisfying. 

And then I got to thinking how awesome bread is in general.  [Yes, I’m a huge proponent of the Atkin’s Diet – and for the record, he never said you couldn’t have bread ever again.  But believing in the diet and being able to actually do the diet are 2 different things and not for this post.  ]

Bread.  You can do so many awesome things with bread.  You can make it sweet or savory; plain or fancy; hearty or puffy.  Think of all the bready type things we have – doughnuts, pastries, cakes, pasta, crusts for pies, sourdough … I could probably go on and on.  Fact is, it’s a staple of life.  And I love it, and I have discovered, I love making it.  Something about just sticking your hands in that big bowl of flour and water, mixing it up, then dumping the whole thing on the counter and kneading it out.  And then the rise – that’s so cool!  It’s like magic.   

So this week I am thankful for bread, and for the making of bread. 

I’ll save you a slice.

Have you ever had one of those moments where you reach for a word and it’s just not there?  I had such a moment the other day.  *sigh*

Darc and I were watching a show, and the lead actor is Australian, speaks with an American accent for the show, but uses his Australian one for the announcements during commercial breaks.  The “We’ll be right back,” kind of thing.

Darc said, “Can’t keep the Aussie under wraps.”  I remembered that Christian Bale used his American voice for all his Batman promotions, even though he’s from Wales.  So I mentioned that, that Bale did it, kept his accent under wraps.

“Well, he’s not Australian,” quipped Darc.
”Oh I know, he’s … [blank] … [blinking] … Walesian.”  My brain went on vacation and forgot to tell me.

Darc busted up laughing.  “You mean Welsh?  I’m sure you meant Welsh.  Because there’s no such thing as ‘Walesian’.  I hope to God you know that!”

Yes.  I know that.    *smack*

Lesson of the day: Don’t ever do drugs in high school, it’ll come back to bite you in the ass later on … years later on.  The gift that keeps on giving.

Tell me about one of your brain blank moments, please, so I don’t feel like such an idiot.  Seriously, Walesian?  I have no idea WTH I was thinking.  It kinda sounds cool, though, right?  Right?

Technology and shoes, what could be better?  Actually, lots, but that’s not the point of Tuesday Tootsies.  These are some interesting things I found when I did a search for technology+shoes. 

This first set is kind of cool.  They’re designed to change colors as you exercise.  Kind of a nifty motivation, right?  If you’re watching your feel while you work out, that is. 

This pair is for those who are always jammin’ on the go.  Talk about step to the beat!  Mp3 players in your shoes.  Keen. 

Here we go.  For those who simply must have their Gameboy with them at all times.  I’m not sure how one plays with their toes, though. 

Here’s my favorite.  GPS shoes for streetwalkers.  Because serial killers never, ever, take the shoes off their victims. 

That’s my take on Tootsies this week.  I love technology and I love shoes, but now I’m thinking they might not always go so great together.
