So my husband sent me a link the other day, something he thought might help me with blog fodder.  It’s supposed to provide people with ideas for creative writing, blogging, etc.  I saw this picture and what popped into my head was a joke I heard when I was little.

Q. What goes hahahahahahahaha-plop?
A. Someone laughing his head off.

My husband also recorded a program for me, about the Zodiac killer.  When we watched it, both of us were almost alarmed at what they were trying to pass off as some kind of investigative journalism.  Ohmygosh it was so lame!  Someone was accusing a man dead 5 years of having been the Zodiac because they thought he sort of looked like the police sketch, so they tried to get a DNA sample of the man.  The dead man’s friend had letters, and the letters indicated that the dead man wasn’t even in CA at the time of at least one of the killings – but they wanted his DNA anyway.  They “confirmed” that a recording of the dead guy was proof positive voice comparison to a phone call the Zodiac made after one of the killings.  Their proof?  The recollection – the 40 year recollection mind you – of the woman at the police station who answered the phone.  Yeah, that would hold up in court.

I did some reading a couple of years ago of some extensive research into the Zodiac killings, from articles posted in the Napa Sentinel.  Turns out it’s now defunct and the links and articles are gone but genius me had the brilliant idea to copy the articles and email them to myself, so I still have them if anyone wants to read them.  I’m pretty convinced the Zodiac was actually a team of guys.  Maybe I’ll make a page here on the blog and post them there.

In other news, there isn’t any.  It’s time for me to begin my nightly ritual of book dancing.  *snort*

Serial Serials

I wasn’t going to blog about it.  Honest.  image

We felt like watching a movie, and after scanning through the cable options, we settled on Summer of Sam.  Being the serial killer follower that I am, it seemed like it would be right up my alley.  It was more about the effects of a serial killer on the loose in a neighborhood than it was about the killer himself, but it was still a pretty good movie.  It churned up a lot of memories though, because I landed in New York a few months after Sam was caught.  While he was on the loose, the rumors began in my life that a move to New York was in my near future and Sam was one of the reasons – and there were myriad – why I didn’t want to go.  Not only would I be leaving my friends, my family, my school, my life, there was a serial killer there!  Are you kidding?  I’m not going there!  Well, I was a minor and didn’t get a vote so I made sure that my displeasure with the situation was known.  But that’s for another day.   image

What went through my mind this evening after the movie, was the recollection of another serial killer, one who went by the name of Zodiac.  The thing is, Zodiac was in my backyard, the San Francisco Bay Area.  And I had to laugh at my young self tonight because it went through my head that while I didn’t want to go to New York because of the Son of Sam, living near the Zodiac killer didn’t bother me in the least.  Oh Irony, how you laugh at me sometimes!  Zodiac – to this day – has never been caught, while Sam (David Berkowitz) has been in prison for 30+ years.

Still not done, Irony had another surprise for me.  Not long after I ended up in Chicagoland, the news was full of the case of serial killer John Wayne Gacy.  He lived just a hop, skip, and a jump from where I was living at the time.

I can’t tell anymore if they’re following me or I’m following them.  I guess my fascination with them was meant to be.
