Wednesday Want

imageSeeing Darc’s post about quitting smoking reminded me that’s it’s been 6 whole months since I quit.  I dunno, that felt like it should be commemorated somehow.  So this is me, commemorating the fact that it’s been 6 mos since I last had a cigarette.

I still consider myself a smoker though.

For me, there was a lot of cold turkey, but no cold turkey.  And boy howdy, it’s weird how my mouth actually waters when I see the pack sitting next to kitteh there in the picture, and that’s not even my brand.  Not reds anyway.

There are moments when I wonder if the craving will ever go away or if it will be like this for the rest of my life.  Sometimes I miss it so bad that my lungs actually itch inside.  If you’ve never been a smoker, it’s hard for you to understand, I’m sure.  It seems strange to say “suffered from an addiction,” but that’s what it is.  But it feels so nasty to say that.  For the record, I never stood on any street corners offering to sell my body to strangers just so I could have a cigarette!

So I’ve commemorated the 6 month thing.  I won’t do it again until it’s been a year, and then after that, well maybe at 5 years we’ll see.  😉

Have you ever broken a bad habit?  Are you still successful at it?

I once tried to kick my habit of being a sarcastic smart ass. What do you think? Did it take?

Well, ummm … perhaps another stint in rehab might be good, if you really want to kick that habit. If not, you’re good to go!

  2. I have only two bad habits I can mention at this time. I wrote a compendium of nose picking methods from masters of the nasal passages world wide but that is out of print.

Out of print? Oh too bad!

Over eating. My addiction is food and it is serious. It threatens my health just as severely as smoking. I am at a tipping point and the doctors are hovering. I still have problems.

But food is necessary for life! Why doesn’t the body just get rid of all the excess like it’s supposed to? It should never store it!

I am on the computer too much – my life and my house and yard work remain where I left off is 2000. I tell the neighbors I’m over eating and don’t feel up to it. One bad habit supports another and I am writing a book about that called “Lean on Me” how I trade bad habits to lighten my load.

There is no such thing as “on the computer too much.” 😉

  3. WIGSF, if you kicked THAT habit you would cease to be of interest. You got here today ahead of me only because I write long, thoughtful or less comments. That brings me to another bad habit – I fib. I’m drafting a book about that called “Fibber McMe and Jolly ’cause I’m Fat.”

Did you just name check Fibber McGee and Molly??? What are you, like 100 or something? Welcome to the 21st century. Please keep your pop culture references at least somewhat recent for us young folks.

      • Ya – I’m old and moldy but like cheese – better that way. Does this mean the relationship is over – the cerebral give and take? Oh, dear. type cast again. The inner child hidden under layers of learned phrases that have time connections. Woe is moi.

My male student borders this summer (19 and 23) think I’m rather interesting. In fact, I more or less surprised them. Now I can’t get rid of them. The 23 yr old is in ROTC and is very dictatorial. Tells me “read up on this so we can discuss it.” He’s from Ghana

My 19 year old is from Korea and he cooks for me! As a volunteer, yet. He is up all night talking with Korea and playing video games with his pals on some server or other. He is a computer major. I am the one who fixes computers around here. Now, do I have your respect and undying friendship or not?

Bob’s chocolate chip addiction was not a pretty site. I’d find him slumped into a chair with cookie goo and milk all over him.

And that’s NOT a joke. I swear to God, that happened.

Chocolate chip cookies have that effect on people. Especially my homemade ones.

  5. Congratulations on six months, Fal! I hope you feel it’s worth it, unlike your grumpy butt husband over there. 😉

I drank too much in college, but I’m not sure I’d call it an addiction. I don’t think I’ve ever had an addiction to a substance. I’m more of a serial obsessor.

LOL, no, at this point I don’t feel it was “worth it.” If I felt some benefit to it, then I might but as it is, I got nothin’!

A serial obsessor – I love that phrase! I think I go through that too sometimes. 🙂 But I’ve never been a cereal obsessor. 😉

Usually if I tell people of my former bad habits they tend to not like me as much. (no, nothing perverse) So, I’ll just continue with my present bad habits of drinking and smoking way too much. I’ve been smoking about 4 years.

Former bad habits but nothing perverse … hmmm, now you have me wondering! And former habits just make a person more interesting, because they’re former and not current. So it makes you super strong to have overcome them. 🙂

    • Sooooo, you show up on my site after a few and take off at my posts? Shame. Smoke? Double shame although in both areas you are a true Texan. If I were young, I’d come down and overwhelm you.

  7. Well done! I no longer smoke, after having trouble with my eye. I only used to smoke about 3 a day and I LOVED it. Boo.

We would have had so much fun smoking together! How is your eye, by the way? You haven’t blogged anything about it in a while.

Next check up booked for the 19th 0f July. Fingers crossed!

      I’ll be praying! 🙂

I am not a quitter so I can not quite any of my bad habits!

HAhahahahahaha! Now there’s a sentiment I can live with! 😀

  9. I stopped by my fingernails. I see no reason to quit drinking coffee. If a habit doesn’t interfere with my life, I see no reason to quit.

    I say amen to that!

Well, being neurotic. That would be a habit to break. But who would I be then?

LOL You’d still be you. 😀

    …yet.

Hahahahaha! Nah, after 6 mos I’ve over the burn, most of the time. 😉 Still, I’m worth a hell of a lot more than a cigarette! Heck, I’m worth at least a couple of cartons! 😀

In Canada that would make you worth at least $200.00 cause it’s about $100/carton. Which is why I quite 7 years ago. lol I don’t have the figure to be worth $200.00 on the street. 😉

Hi Cindy. 🙂 Good for you for sticking with it for 7 years! That’s great!

$200 … well, it’s not about the figure, it’s about the skills. 😉

Thanks for stopping by and commenting. 🙂
