Wednesday Whittles

Well, you know the MiniNess had a great 1st day of school.  :D  She had fun learning about the long A sound, and learning how to make the letter, and all that jazz.  And of course, mama is proud, very proud.  🙂

And the KnytLite forgot to put his game back in the box when he was done playing, so we had to make a 2nd trip to the library in one day.  But he did great in school too, after having a few days off last week.

We finally finished the 2nd season of Dexter.  It’s been a fun show to watch and fortunately, the library gives you and extended viewing time for documentaries and TV series and things of that nature.  I don’t think they have season 3 though.  Was there even a season 3 of Dexter?  I don’t even know!

Just like that, Summer is over and the weather has turned and gotten lovely for a few days.  The weather is never nice for more than a few days around here.  Darc and I were talking how it’s like the earth has turned a corner, weather wise, and then we stopped to think about that, and calculated that the earth moves about 2 MILLION miles per day through space, on its orbit around the sun.  I looked it up – that’s about 66,000 mph.  I don’t know why I never thought of that before but it kind of astounded me.  Plus, it’s spinning at roughly 1,000 mph in it’s daily revolution.  It’s incredible more people don’t suffer from motion sickness.  ;)  66k mph.  Now that’s some speed!

  2. Don’t tell me all of this about the earth and spinning. I get dizzy on merrygorounds! We had 3 Denzils here at one time now only 2. One was sold and carried off to a mall in Syracuse.

There’s a mall in this general area too that has a big carousel in it. 🙂

I’ll try to keep the spinning down to a dull roar. 😉

  3. Aren’t you singing the Monty Python song?

HA! Love it! I never saw much of Monty Python so those lyrics are totally new to me! Thanks! 😀

And you reminded me of the first episode of the new Doctor Who:

“You know like we were saying about the earth revolving? It’s like when you were a kid, the first time they tell you the world’s turning and you just can’t quite believe it because everything looks like it is standing still. I can feel it. The turn of the earth. The ground beneath our feet is spinning at a thousand miles an hour and the entire planet is hurtling around the sun at 67,000 miles an hour, and I can feel it. We’re falling through space, you and me, clinging to the skin of this tiny little world, and if we let go… That’s who I am.”

    What a great description!

    The universe is amazing!

Yes, it really is when you stop and think about it. 🙂

  4. I just finished the 4th season of Dexter and it was awesome!

Yay! That’s good to know! If my library ever gets it. I haven’t seen 3 there either, might have to request it once Darc is done with this book project.

That’s fun MiniNess is enjoying schooling. What made you and Darc decide to home school your children? Were you home schooled, too? Do you love it? Just being nosey 🙂

I miss schooling some days. The end of August, and early September always make me think of new pencils and pens… I love shopping for school supplies! There’s just something wonderful about fresh notebooks.

Someone once close to me homeschooled their kids several years ago, and once I started looking into it, and discovered how it’s so much better than public school, I felt I couldn’t not do it, you know? I’ve been a big supporter of it for about 15-20 years now. 🙂

I’m a sucker for school supplies too, lol. 🙂
