New WLW Plug-in

Oh my gosh, this is the coolest plug-in for Windows Live Writer

You know how much I love my beloved Live Writer.  I don’t blog without it.  I’m not sure I’d even know how to use the WordPress post editor anymore.  Live Writer can do pretty much everything the WP Editor can, except it does it all offline from your desktop.  You can tweak all kinds of things from Live Writer, including your pages, as well as your posts.  Best stand-alone blog editor EVER.  🙂

I went to their website to see if there was anything new.  And I found this:

Picture from phone

Insert pictures from your phone directly into a Windows Live Writer. Skip the hassle of USB cables, Bluetooth, e-mail, picture synchronization, or using external services like Dropbox or Skydrive. The plugin displays a one-time QR code. After scanning the code with your phone you are brought to a web site that allows you to choose a picture from your phone. The picture is then relayed back to Windows Live Writer. This entire process takes seconds.

Pasted from <Windows Live Writer Plug-ins – Picture from phone>

This makes getting a picture from my phone to Windows Live Writer SO much easier and faster!

I’ve used the USB cable to transfer pics from my phone to my computer.  I’ve also uploaded pics directly to WP from my phone to save as a draft and then downloaded them back to WLW to tweak them and write my posts.  Yes, being able to post from your phone or tablet is amazing, but who can type on those little keys?  Not me.  Besides, I’m at home with a full sized keyboard and screen, not out and about with just my phone for a blogging tool.  For me, phone blogging is pretty much a “for emergencies only” kind of thing and honestly, how often is that?  Right.

I love this.  Live Writer and my phone pics, married at last!

03-20-13.  A gorgeous day for the first day of Spring!  Also flipping cold!  Single digits this morning and we won’t get up to 20, most likely.

Let There Be Light!

Pretty much ever since we moved in, this light has bugged me.  I don’t know if you can tell from this shot, but there is only 1 side glowing light on the ceiling.  It’s a 3-light fixture.  I can’t even begin to tell you how many times I’ve changed one of the bulbs, only to have it burn out … before I was even down from the ladder.  No matter how hard I tried, or what brand of bulbs I got, 2 of the 3 always blew out in a matter of days, if not hours.

Eventually we learned to just … live with the dark.

I hate poorly lit kitchens.  Some people are fine with that kind of ambiance, but for me, the kitchen must be BRIGHT.  I’m handling knives here, people!  ;)  20130211_091632

A few months ago, we asked management if it was possible we could change out the fixture and buy our own.  Oh sure! they said.  Matter of fact, if you want one of the crew to put it in for you, just say the word!

We were so excited!  So we planned that after the holidays, sometime into the new year, we’d go light shopping.

Finally this past weekend, we found one we liked at a price we liked, on sale even!  Score!

I went over and talked to one of the ladies – she’s such a doll, Miss C – and told her we’d found a light and could she schedule a maintenance call for me to have someone install it.  Which she did.

The next day, of the guys came over – we’ll call him MG D.  (for Maintenance Guy D).  He thought I needed a light bulb changed – do people really call for that? – and balked when he saw that it was a fixture.  First he told me they weren’t allowed to put in non-standard fixtures, and I explained that I’d talked to everyone at the office and they’d all cleared it.  Then he said it was a much longer job than he anticipated and would I mind if he came back after lunch?

Sure, I’m good with that.

That was Monday.

On Tuesday, I went over to the office and talked to them again.  There’s a new head manager there, Miss J, well, new since last year anyway, and she told me that no, I wasn’t allowed to put in a non-standard fixture.  Ummmm.  Hmm.  A rule change?

I explained that I’d talked to management about this for the past few months, was there something I could have misunderstood?

She said she’d get back to me the next day.

Wednesday came and went.

Thursday I went over to the office again, and asked if there was any update on the status of me getting my light installed.

The new lady, Miss J, said, “Yes, you’re on schedule for this week.  If they’re not there today, they’ll be there tomorrow.”  And she smiled.  She’s a hard one to get to know, pretty shy and reserved like I am, more of the paperwork sort than the people sort.  And our first introduction to her was over the whole oven thing.  So we’re still kind of tentative around one another.  But the smile was good.

Perhaps there really is a payoff to taking in a couple dozen cupcakes to the office every so often.  😉

Friday morning I got the knock on my door and MG D was back, with drill in hand.  We chatted while he worked and I got to know him a little better.  That was nice – I like knowing who’s in my home.

By the time he left a couple hours later, I had this:

LIGHT!  Bright, beautiful, glowing light!  The kids and I cheered, we were so happy.  We can see!

It’s so nice and bright that I don’t always need to turn on the light above the stove now, unless I’m actually cooking.  Bonus, it fit ALL my criteria:

  • it’s bright
  • it’s pretty
  • the shades point down so bugs can’t get in there and die, leaving those charming bug corpse shadows that occur from time to time
  • the light points down, where I need it, and not up, where I don’t
  • it hangs lower, saving me from having to climb at least 2 steps on the ladder, and my knee will be ever so grateful
  • I won’t have to take it apart just to put a new bulb in if one burns out
  • there’s no fiberglass insulation to get in my eyes if I need to change a bulb either, like the old fixture
  • and it was on sale and cheap

This is where I do the Snoopy Happy Dance.  😀

And how was your weekend?

Monday’s sunrise – 02-18-13.  Pretty!  What a nice way to start the day.  🙂

I Plead the 5th

Wednesday, that is!  It is a built in day of hooky for me.  See, the way I have my chore chart set up, since we don’t do school on Wednesdays, that’s when I have my heavier tasks scheduled.  But most months only have 4 weeks, and that 5th Wednesday just kind of floats around out there with nothing on it.  So I claimed it as my hooky day, a day to play without guilt, nothing scheduled.  And since there are only 3-4 of those a year, there’s no guilt about taking too many days off.  Win win!

So it’s not just a “Hump Day” for me, it’s a “Humpity Hump Day!”  LOL

Sorry, that was lame. 🙂

My friend goes in for surgery this afternoon so I’ll be praying a lot.  Hopefully this will solve what’s been ailing her, and the biopsy will come back negative.

What are your plans for the day?  Do you have a scheduled free day too?

It is with great pride and joy that I announce my kids are done with school for the rest of the year!  They worked so hard for so long and managed to actually finish 10 days early.  I can’t even begin to tell you how excited they are to have the next 6 weeks off of school.  :)  Now let the fun begin!

Happy Birthday Steve!

I would like to take a moment to wish my friend Steve a Happy Birthday.  He’s a great guy who’s passionate about America.  Visiting his blog is always a breath of fresh air for me.  He doesn’t pull any punches, but he’s always respectful, and that’s hard to find these days.  Steve’s a class act all the way around and I’m proud and honored to call him my friend.

I hope you’re having a great day, my friend!  Happy Birthday!  *hugs*

Lucky Caller 7

What could be more fitting for Friday the 13th than a story that scares the heck out of you and is free, too?

Today is your lucky day!

Seriously, it gave me nightmares and I watched it being written.

Kelly won a radio contest for the first time in her life, and it’s a dream vacation — a fishing trip on a charter off the coast. Lots of fishing, fun, and sun.

But the crew of the little charter boat is borderline incompetent. The other passengers range from an icy blond bombshell to bald and overweight businessmen. Kelly’s not catching many fish, she’s not having much fun, and she just wants to go home.

When a mysterious storm appears on the horizon taking away even the sun, Kelly gets the feeling she’s headed for more than she bargained for. Maybe, just maybe, it doesn’t pay to be Lucky Caller 7.
