"Plz 2 Nawt Disturbz Meh, Iz in Mah Box"

I don’t think they made it.  (See previous post.)

The little bucket hanging from the tree by my patio yesterday, was gone today.  I don’t know why but it made me far more sad than it probably should have.

On a lighter note, Borders still has lots of stuff, so get there to get some stuff at their discount rates.  Smile

I’ll be in my box if anyone needs me.  Smile

Weekending

imageWe decided to give the kids a couple of weeks off of school in honor of Easter.  Needless to say, they were thrilled.  Smile  So for the next 2 weeks they will have absolutely nothing to do despite all the toys and video games they have!

Mommy, on the other hand, is actually not really getting that break.  I opted to help my beloved with the latest Slurp he’s got going on.  I’ll be spending my days researching and doing a bit of editing.  Slurp, for those who don’t know, is what we call the non-fiction books my husband writes.  He referred to the 1st project he had as his “Super Secret Real Life Project” or “SSRLP” and people noted that looked a lot like “slurp.”  Now you know.  Smile  So this will be his 3rd book.  Because of his work schedule, I think I’ll be much more involved with this one as well.

Time to start the water to boil for the eggs this week too.  We wanted to find an Easter tree to decorate, much like the Christmas tree tradition, but we couldn’t really find an indoor tree to suit our needs right now.  Hopefully next year we’ll be able to do that.  We want to set up a tree and decorate it with Easter ornaments and have presents for the kids under it.  I thought a palm tree would be appropriate, but can you imagine how hard it would be to put ornaments on something like that?  And who has a little 3’ or 4’ decorative fake palm tree?  So, more searching I suppose.

We went to check out Kindles this weekend.  We found out Target sold them OTC so we thought how cool it was to check them out, do the touchy-feely thing, see it up close and personal.  We both walked away feeling … meh.  Perhaps because Target is only selling the Kindle2 right now, and not the new Kindle3, I dunno.  But we both were hoping to be more impressed for the kind of money Amazon is asking for it.  Shouldn’t we have been wowed?  Or am I expecting too much for $150?  My phone was way less than that and I was a lot more wowed.  Apparently more research is required. I was so hoping to be wowed.  But maybe it’s me.  Do you have a Kindle?  What are your thoughts?

My weekend was pretty nice, I hope yours was too!

And a blessed Shabbat Shalom to you too, in honor of Passover tonight.

Monday Madness

imageWords.  They are very important here in the Darc House.  We love words.  We love to write words.  Surely it’s clear by now that while I’m not a writer, I always wanted to be one.  Talent, I lack.  But I have gained insight into the craft of writing in these past few years, thanks to my husband, who does have talent.  And skill.  Skill is important in being a writer.  There is definitely a method to the madness, and it’s not all just about talent.  Lots of wannabes forget that, I think.

Anyway, the KnytLite has decided he wants to follow in Daddy’s footsteps and be a writer himself.  Let me tell you, a couple of years ago he wanted to grow up to be Spiderman, so we’ve come a long way since then.  :)  It’s so cute too, because Darc has found this method for writing that has helped him immeasurably, and when he and the KnytLite watch movies together, they sit there and discuss plot points and inciting incidents and pinch points and set-up, all kinds of writerly stuff.  And the boy even had Daddy make him a “map” of the method, so he could follow along and try to determine those story elements himself.  So easy a child could do it.  The method, I mean, not the writing.  And now the MiniNess is making writerly noises too.  :)  I tell ya, teach a kid how to read and soon they’ll think they can write anything!  LOL

Today is kind of a big day for us, as Darc has put his 2nd anthology up on Kindle and Smashwords.  Here’s the Smashwords Link: A Moonlit Stroll – Smashwords.  The Amazon one is coming, but that will take a day or 2 probably.  They’re a tad slower to get things up.  If you’re on FaceBook you can follow Darc’s author page and that will have updated information, that, and his fiction blog.  Cool book cover, huh?  I love it.  :)

The Flintstones laptop here is on it’s last legs I fear.  It keeps dying on me.  When I say dying, I mean as in dead, it shuts down like someone cut the power off to the building.  It gets too hot I think and just goes.  No fun when you’re trying to get things done online!  We’ve had it propped up for some time, but now even that doesn’t seem to be good enough.  If any of you have the winning lottery numbers, I could sure use them!  ;)

So that was my weekend, how was yours?  Have you bought Darc’s book yet?  Hurry!

Friday Fragments

Our blog buddy Mapelba is an artist, in addition to being a writer.  A few weeks ago she put up a post about doing some artwork on commission for the holidays, if you wanted something done.  What a unique gift idea!  Click the “holidays” link below to find the perfect gift for that hard-to-buy-for someone in your life.  :)

The gift season is coming. Do you know what you’re buying yet?

I’ll write a story for that particular someone and I’ll use it in a work of art.

Over at Words are Art and Lake Belle I’ve got a deal on stories and art for the holidays. Yes, I know it is a wee bit early to think about holidays, but if you want something handmade, sooner is better.”

Speaking of gifts, did I mention my husband is also a writer?  And that his e-book is for sale on Amazon?  Well it is!  You can purchase a copy for the Kindle lover in your life, or if the one you love doesn’t have a Kindle, you can go to Smashwords and get a copy to read on your computer.  :)

My “source” for jokes didn’t put one up this week, so I’m fresh out of funnies.  Instead I leave you with this fascinating shot from Canadian Rockies Waterfall Turns Blood Red.

Wednesday Whittles

It seems to be a week of slumps.  It’s hard to find things to blog about after that long weekend.  I pulled out WIGSF’s list of Wednesday things that he left on my blog a week or 2 ago, when I was complaining, and thinking Wednesday Woe, or Wretched Wednesday would be a really bad idea.  He had a lot of great ideas on that list.  Today he made me laugh because on his blog he made the observation that Aston Kutcher is really just a tall Tom Cruise.  Later in the evening that came back to mind, and I thought to myself how I never thought about celebrities much anymore, certainly not like I did when I was a teen.  And I had forgotten that not 5 minutes before, I’d made the observation to my husband that Richard Gere and Patrick Stewart could pass for brothers, if you shaved Gere.

I grabbed half a dozen books from the library, so now I have a lot to read when the old connection goes out on me.  NoConnectI love that little Shelfari website!   I try to update it every time I come back from the library, but I can’t even begin to tell you how hard it is to remember all the stuff I’ve read over the years.  I don’t remember book titles!  Who are we kidding here!  I can’t even remember movie titles from movies I saw last week!  Total Swiss cheese memory when it comes to that stuff, but I can remember birthdays like nobody’s business.

I also got a ton of movies to watch, some I’ve never seen before, and some that are tried and true.  They still didn’t have Clash of the Titans, the 80’s one, and I found out I’m 7th on the list.  *sigh*  7th?  That might be a long wait, considering they don’t even have a copy in stock.

WIGSF, here’s a couple of pictures I thought you might enjoy.  Wombats, for your Wednesday viewing pleasure.  :D

Library Adventures

I like the library.  Honest.  I think it’s one of the coolest places.  There’s so much to learn and do – I probably should have been a librarian.  Ah well, missed opportunities.

Libraries even have computers that can connect you to the Internet, which is pretty awesome when you think about it.  A free connection to something most of us pay for.  Sure, there’s a time limit, and several restrictions to keep computers safe from things like viruses and whatnot, but still, for free, who could complain?  I’m sure not.

What gets a bit on the uncomfortable side is feeling like everyone around you is looking over your shoulder while you type in your screen names and passwords.  You want to look around, make sure no one’s watching.  The paranoia factor can creep up pretty dramatically when you’re using library computers.

Yesterday we had to use the library Internet connection to upload some things that Darc has been working on.  I have no idea what the problem was, but we pretty much had to upload one file at. a. time.  It may have been the library’s connection, but we took our own laptop in.  Darc said he had to sign on to the library’s web portal so perhaps that had something to do with it, I don’t know.  What I do know is that it took over 2 hours to upload some files that should ordinarily have taken only a few minutes.  And my kids were so well behaved the entire time.  Can you see the proud mama smile beaming out over the horizon there?  One lady had a toddler who was having scream fits that she wasn’t allowed to climb up on a checkout table. I was nearby scanning the book roulette shelf at the time, and my daughter just stood there staring at this screaming kid.  I felt bad for the mom.  That’s still too young to smack, but a quick pat on the hand and a stern “NO” might have worked.  Then when I was using the library computer my kids sat on the floor by my feet and played quietly with another little girl who’s mom was also using a computer.  Well behaved children.  What a nice feeling!  :D

Now I have some new stuff to read and try to update on my little Shelfari page.  That should be fun.  I am off to attempt that, and to think about all the things I’m thankful for that I can post about for tomorrow.  :)  You have a wonderful Wednesday.  Halfway through the week now!

Monday Mayhem

So, I played book roulette at the library again, having forgotten the awesome list that Steve gave me on the desk, and I’ve been reading this one called House of Lost Souls or something like that, by some British guy.  My game of roulette involves reading nothing more that the back of the book jacket, or part of the inside flap, whichever.  I take risks, yes I do.  I live dangerously.

Anyway, this book is basically a scary book, or I should say it’s trying to be.  It’s definitely creepy.  But it’s rather meandering, which seems to be a feature of the British authors I’ve read.  It seems to be about demons and Satanists.

But the strangest thing is that recently I’ve been in contact with someone I went to high school with.  And in one of his letters to me he said, “Hey, remember when you and Jane used to play with that Ouija board at the bus stop?”  Oh Lord!  No, I don’t remember that.  I remember the Ouija board, but not playing with it at the bus stop, of all places.  Now, I don’t really believe in coincidences and it’s made me go hmm, that I’m reading a book about Satanism and get a letter from someone I haven’t spoken to in 30 years who reminds me of my own toying with that.  Weird.

~~~~~~~~~~
I had my son watch Apollo 13 this weekend and he actually sat enthralled through the whole thing.  I was afraid he’d get bored half way through but he didn’t.  I, on the other hand, bawled through most of it.  Why, I have no idea.  But thinking of lines like, “No disrespect Sir, but I think this will be our finest hour.”  “The House and Senate today passed resolutions asking the American people to pray for the safe return of our astronauts.”  “Failure is not an option!” made me long for a time in our country when heroes were lauded and patriotism was something to cherish.  I really miss that.
~~~~~~~~~~

Thus ends November.  Can you believe the year is almost over?  Just 1 more month.  Can’t say I’m going to miss ‘09, but I am for sure looking forward to ‘10.  I gots me a good feelin’.  ;)
