Treads and Toss ups

image

I saw these the other day and did a double take.  Too weird, even for me!  If you can believe that, lol.  The heel is just bizarre looking and I actually had a moment of pity for the model who had to traipse down a runway wearing these things.

Plus, I hate the color combination.  The sparkle is nice, but that’s about it.

Know what I saw in the paper a few days ago?  Get this, Burger King is trying out a delivery service.  I had no idea they already do that in other countries (what are we, chopped liver?) but so far they’re doing a trial run in D.C. and are thinking of expanding it. For $2 Burger King Will Come to You

*****

Another article I found was this one about How Much Is A Homemaker Worth?  I like articles like that, for obvious reasons, lol.  Smile  Some women who stay at home get put down a lot by either a less than considerate husband or thoughtless friends or neighbors.  It’s nice to see the affirmation that homemakers often need.

Lastly, I have a post up on my recipes blog.  You can check out my Cheesy Egg BakeSmile  Pull up a chair!

This Week’s Thoughts

image

Did you see that moon the other night? I think it was Tuesday. It was all hazy here, and the moon was sitting pretty low on the horizon to the east.  I tried to grab a picture of it with my phone.   I need a telescope.  Okay, maybe need is too strong a word.  I want a telescope.

*****

After nearly a week of playing around with my Tablet, I can definitively say I love it.  I love it!  I’ve been reading up a storm on it, and downloading apps for it, just like a phone.  One thing I discovered which I thought was cool – I was going to get a stylus for it but I found I just need a fingernail.  No smeary fingerprints!  Built-in styluses!  Woo!  Open-mouthed smile

*****

No longer the “Terminator,” or the “Governator,” now … the “Fornicator.”  *facepalm*  Oy vey Maria, what a mess!

*****

The PlayStation Network is down again?  What in the world are they doing over at Sony?

*****

What’s this about Android phones?  Privacy concerns?  Hacking?  Yikes!  No one is safe anywhere!  No banking on the phone!  Whatever else you do with your phone, don’t do banking!  However, ClearCheckbook.com has an app where you don’t connect to a bank but you can still keep track of your money, if you need to check that info while you’re out and about.  It’s pretty cool.

My husband picked himself up some shoes on the way home from work.  He handed me his wallet when he got home and said, “Go shopping!  You deserve some new shoes too!”

And I realized that I probably haven’t been inside a regular non-discount shoe store other than Payless since 1980-something.  I’m a little overwhelmed.  And unnerved that I’m a little overwhelmed.  And not the least bit interested in going to the mall.  *shudder*  Guess I’m going to Shoebuy!  Or maybe Zappos.  What I really want is something like a “flatform.”  At real-people prices.  And free shipping.  Smile  No, I’m not picky at all!  Why do you ask?

Monday Madness

image_thumb[2]What am I supposed to do all day now that Darc is gone?

*****

My son said he had a great birthday.  :)  That always makes a mommy’s heart swell.

*****

I’m kicking around the idea of doing a series for my political blog.

*****

I’m looking into learning about technical editing.  Wow, huh?

*****

I actually subscribed to a writerly blog, (on my Reader) so as to learn more about aspects of writing for a project that’s been brewing in the back of my mind for some weeks now.  (Not related to the technical editing stuff.)

*****

Gone into “documentary mode” it seems with the stuff I’ve been picking out at the library lately, to watch.  Haven’t really grabbed a movie in a few weeks.

*****

Did,  however, get a notice that Dexter Season 3 was available for me to pick-up so I got that one.

*****

My son seems to have finally grown out of “ant” phase (whew!) and is now into “shark” phase.  On the plus side, he’ll never ask if he can have a pet one, or collect one in a jar to bring inside and study.

*****

Now I’m off to iron some shirts for Darc so he has something to wear for his new job.  🙂

And how was your weekend?

Monday Mayhem

There were so many things I was going to tell you about today, and now that I’ve sit down to blog about them, my brain blanked out.  *sigh*  Figures!  It felt like there was so much that happened over the weekend.  Not events or situations, but more like realizations and understandings.  Know what I mean?  The things that happened were more internal than external.  I should have taken notes.

I did discover, after doing a lot of research, that was I thought might be a potential medical condition really isn’t and is something easily treatable.  So that was a huge relief.

The kids did really well in school last week and the MiniNess is still in excited mode about it all.

Football started and the Patriots won!  Woo!

Thank goodness for NFL.com to get scores, because without TV, I can’t watch a single game.  :(

So I’m trying to get back into football mode on my football blog.

Cigarettes cost over $6 a pack here now, so it was good timing for me to quit when I did.  They were under $5 when I quit.

OH!  I remember what I wanted to tell you!  On Friday and Saturday afternoons, there several military helicopters that few overhead toward the Naval Base, over periods of several minutes.  It was the oddest thing.  The base tends to run their aircraft north-south, and we’re more west of the base, so we almost never get fly-over.  I searched the local press and found nothing.  I went to the base website and got nothing, no special events or anything like that.  It was just weird.  I mean, the big heavy choppers, a half dozen both days, spaced about 5 minutes apart.  For a moment there it almost felt like we were being invaded and our boys were gearing up.  Totally weird.

So that was kinda my weekend.  You?

Weary Wednesday

image_thumbI’m here, I’m here, don’t mark me absent!  I was so tired last night that I decided to do my post today in “real time” rather than get a post prepped early.  I didn’t even get to my Reader until the wee hours.  We did some running around yesterday and got a lot of things done.  So I’m pleased about that.  And my kids will have shoes and clothing and coats through the Winter.  :)  Disobedient kids – I tell them not to grow anymore but do they ever listen?  😉

I was reading over on Mapelba’s blog about her recent experiences with a guy at a cafe she likes to frequent, who sounds like he might be one of those creepy stalker types.  It’s made me think of times from my past where someone didn’t seem capable of taking a hint.  I wrote about a couple of light-hearted ones a few years ago in a post called I Hate Gorilla Masks! if you were interested in reading about my own experiences.  Marta’s story drives home to me that we can never take our safety for granted.  You just never know where or when someone will get some maggot into their head that they have rights with you that don’t exist anywhere but in their own deluded mind.  Marta seems to have to situation under control and hopefully the guy has gotten the hint now, but check out her last couple of blog entries and see if he doesn’t make your “creep-dar” go off too.

So glad to see that What About Bob? is back up and running again.  Speaking of maggots in the brain, for some reason, WordPress shut him down yesterday for a TOS violation – when there never was a TOS violation.  How stupid is that?  And they never notified him either.  What I’d like to know is what caused WP to do that?  I sure hope WP isn’t going the Blogger route and just automatically shutting down blogs if they get that “report as spam” button clicked, instead of doing at least a modicum of investigation first.  That just puts too much power in the hands of jerks and others who use to it try to shut down a blogger’s free speech.

Anyway, I’m off to try to think of gratitude.  :)  Have a great evening!

Wednesday Whittles

It seems to be a week of slumps.  It’s hard to find things to blog about after that long weekend.  I pulled out WIGSF’s list of Wednesday things that he left on my blog a week or 2 ago, when I was complaining, and thinking Wednesday Woe, or Wretched Wednesday would be a really bad idea.  He had a lot of great ideas on that list.  Today he made me laugh because on his blog he made the observation that Aston Kutcher is really just a tall Tom Cruise.  Later in the evening that came back to mind, and I thought to myself how I never thought about celebrities much anymore, certainly not like I did when I was a teen.  And I had forgotten that not 5 minutes before, I’d made the observation to my husband that Richard Gere and Patrick Stewart could pass for brothers, if you shaved Gere.

I grabbed half a dozen books from the library, so now I have a lot to read when the old connection goes out on me.  NoConnectI love that little Shelfari website!   I try to update it every time I come back from the library, but I can’t even begin to tell you how hard it is to remember all the stuff I’ve read over the years.  I don’t remember book titles!  Who are we kidding here!  I can’t even remember movie titles from movies I saw last week!  Total Swiss cheese memory when it comes to that stuff, but I can remember birthdays like nobody’s business.

I also got a ton of movies to watch, some I’ve never seen before, and some that are tried and true.  They still didn’t have Clash of the Titans, the 80’s one, and I found out I’m 7th on the list.  *sigh*  7th?  That might be a long wait, considering they don’t even have a copy in stock.

WIGSF, here’s a couple of pictures I thought you might enjoy.  Wombats, for your Wednesday viewing pleasure.  😀

Off to read and give Darc a shot at the box here.  Have a totally awesome Wednesday.  🙂

Oh, you like this cool grid thing I made?  🙂

Monday Mayhem

You will not be sorry when you go check out this video over on Mind of a Mom’s blog.  She posted it some time back and I’ve been meaning to post it here, but I can’t seem to find a non-shockwave version of the video on YouTube.  And WordPress doesn’t play nice with shockwave.  So go check it out, you’ll be glad you did.  This young lady is an astonishing artist and it’s not often you get the chance to see someone’s art move people to tears.

And I’m sorry for letting this sit in my drafts folder for so long!

Turns out my friend YellowCat found a WP compatible video that she posted on her blog.  I don’t know how she did it, because I still can’t – so you have your choice of blogs to watch on now, or you can go to YouTube.  YouTube Sand Art

imageFinally, out of sheer, unadulterated boredom, I got my husband to watch Gone With the Wind with me.  The library finally had a copy, there was absolutely nothing on TV, and he was in a willing frame of mind.  :)  He laughed at some parts, like when Melanie was about to die, because of the melodramatic way she dropped her head into Mammy’s arms.  This is the 1st time I’ve seen it in like a dozen years or so, and I watch movies with different eyes now than   I did before, thanks in part to my husband.  I don’t care for “rom-coms” and I’m not heavily into chick clicks that much, so I don’t place a lot of movie demands on him that way.  This was the 1st time he’s ever seen the movie, and now that whole scene with Carol Burnett with the dress with the curtain rod running through it took on a whole new meaning for him.  :)  It was a lot of fun and I’m glad we got the chance to watch it together.

~~~~~~~~~~
The weekend’s been pretty quiet and uneventful, so that’s a good thing.  I am always grateful for the lack of drama.  :)  I only like drama in my movies.
And how was your weekend?
