Tasty Tuesday Travels

Mississippi is home to a few things, food wise.  I did a little research and found that there’s a big shrimp industry there.  Check out the size of those things!

image

*

*

Sweet potatoes are also big in MS.  And you just can’t have a traditional Thanksgiving without sweet potato pie.  Smile

image

*

*

Unless you’re having sweet potato crunch, which looks a bit bigger and has pecans on top.  Hence the crunch.  Smile

image

*

*

Speaking of pecans, they’re huge in MS!  I don’t necessarily mean size wise, but crop size.  They’re abundant in the south.  These are Cajun spiced pecans.

image

*

*

And pecan pie, naturally.  Smile

image

*

*

If I thought I had a crave on for Pralines ‘n’ Cream ice cream before, it’s madness now!  Check out these sweet, delicious pralines!  The recipe looks easy too.  Just click the pic!

image

*

*

Of course, you can’t have Mississippi with Mississippi Mud Pie!  That looks so dreamy!

image

*

*

I’ve never been to Mississippi.  Have you?  I think when I get there I’m going to eat my way through the state!  I love pecans, so I’ll be right at home.  Open-mouthed smile

As always, click the pics for recipes and/or more information, and have a great and tasty day!  Smile

Tasty Tuesday Travels

There’s only one place in all the world that makes Jack Daniel’s.  Yeah, you know where it is!  Winking smile

image

*

*

Want that special Jack Daniel’s touch on your food too?  They have a barbeque sauce for that.  Yum!  I believe TGIFridays also has a menu designed with Jack Daniel’s sauces.  Oh my, one of my favorites!  Be sure to get the Flat-Iron steak!

image

*

*

Must. Try. This!  Honey flavored whiskey!  Perhaps there’s a good chance those Irish genes of mine might kick in after all!  Winking smile

image

*

*

Breakfast!  Tennessee sausage, with pancakes.  Oh I love breakfast!  Mostly at night though.  And I’m not sure you could do better than a Tennessee breakfast like this one.

image

*

*

Don’t forget the cornbread!  I kinda want that skillet too.

image

*

*

I love this website.  It’s dedicated to Tennessee products of all kinds.  I clicked on the honey link.  It’s a bit blurry with the size increase, but you get the idea.  Smile

*

*

Do you know how many years I’ve wanted to try fried green tomatoes?  Yes, ever since the movie came out.  What, ‘91?  ‘92?  1991!  20 years I’ve wanted to try these!  Don’t they look delicious?  A little ranch dip and I could go to town!

Tennessee Mushroom Pâté.  Brandied, no less.  I love Tennessee, I love brandy, and I love mushrooms.  I can’t lose!

There’s a reason they call it Southern Fried Chicken.  Seriously, you’ve never heard of Northern Fried Chicken, have you?  I think I’ve made my point!  Seeing as how Tennessee knows a thing or 2 about Southern, you can bet your bottom dollar they know a thing or 2 about fried chicken too.  Smile

This is what you get when your Nana Rosa moves to Tennessee.  Biscotti!  Tennessee style!

I must have some of this cake.  I mean it, I have to!  Maybe they have online ordering … .  Hey!  They DO!  Woo!

Moonshine Fudge Cake

Darc and I spent a few days in Tennessee a few years ago.  The people were some of the nicest, most helpful people on the planet.  They went out of their way to do everything in their power to help us with a situation we had.  More than one person at more than one location.  We got a real taste of the kindness of strangers.  I should say, the kindness of Tennessee strangers.  Strangers in other places weren’t so kind.

The scenery in Tennessee is some of the most beautiful you’ll ever come across, too.  The Smoky Mountains are gorgeous.  I realized that I’d actually had dreams of Tennessee before I ever got there or knew I would even set foot there, just dreaming about beautiful places.  If I won the lottery and could live anywhere I wanted, Tennessee is high on my list.  Smile

Bourbon, Fried chicken, Thoroughbreds, Derby, and Bluegrass.  Only one place in all the world that does all those things well.  Smile

The glorious Thoroughbred.  One of the most gorgeous animals in the world.

image

*

*

Nowhere is the grass as blue as it is in Kentucky.

image

*

*

Short, sweet, and to the point; Kentucky Bourbon.  Smile

image

*

*

If you really love the fragrance of bourbon, you can even get it to put in things like home-made candles.  I kid you not, click the link!

image

*

*

One man has made Kentucky famous the world over.

image

*

*

Wings with a bourbon-molasses glaze.  Yumm!  Click the pic for the recipe.  G’head, you know you want to!

image

*

*

Even Carl’s Jr has gotten into the liquor cabinet, and is now serving bourbon flavored burgers.  Zero proof, of course, but 100 proof flavor, I’m sure.  I love Carl’s Jr!  And I miss them, since there aren’t any around here.  Did you know you can get deep fried zucchini there?  But that’s another post.  Smile

image

*

*

Bleu cheese, made in Kentucky.  And farm raised caviar too.  Quality horses, and quality food in Kentucky.  Smile

image

image

*

*

I discovered that pole beans grow well in Kentucky.  Click the pic for a recipe.

image

*

*

Naturally, for a cool, refreshing, and relaxing drink, you must have a mint julep, darling.  Make mine a double.  Winking smile

image

*

*

For dessert, have a slice or two of Kentucky chocolate pecan pie.  Oh yeah, now that’s what I’m talking about!

image

*

*

For that raging sweet tooth and chocolate craving, you must have some Kentucky bourbon balls.  Chocolate and bourbon.  Ahh, heavenly!

image

*

*

I drove through Kentucky on my way to Georgia with some friends when I was about 18.  I remember seeing lots of horse farms along the way, and other farms too.  I wish we didn’t have the time constraints and could have spent more time there.  It was very pretty.

As always, click the pics for links.  Smile

Have a great day!

Tasty Tuesday Travels

Noticeably absent from this week’s episode is seafood.  We’re in the Midwest now!  Farm country!

Welcome to Indiana!

And yes, I’ve been here.  Smile

*

*

For a taste of the state, check out A Taste of IndianaSmile  They make gift baskets of all kinds of Indiana stuff, and will put it in an Indiana shaped basket too.  And I’d love one!  But not the Colts one.  This Pats fan will pass  on the Colts basket.  Winking smile  You can send me the stuff in the basket though!

image
A Taste Of Indiana

*

*

Indiana is fields, and that means Farmer’s Markets.  Fresh fruits and vegetables, straight from the ground to your cook pot.  You can’t get any fresher than that!  Better for you, too.

image

*

*

I have developed a taste for asparagus lately.  Wouldn’t you know they have asparagus farms in Indiana?  How much better does this look than the stuff you get at the grocery store?  A little salt, dripping with melted butter – yum!

image

*

*

BACON!  ‘Nuff said!

image

*

*

BEEF!  Also ‘nuff said!
You can find this lovely at Longhorn’s Steakhouse.

image

*

*

Homemade corndogs!  I so need to save this recipe, my daughter adores corn dogs.

image

*

*

A plentiful Indiana crop is corn.  You know what that means!  Popcorn!

image

*

*

How about some goat cheese?  It looks so pretty.  Smile

image

*

*

Aiming to give Kentucky a run for it’s money.

image

*

*

Chocolate!  Now that’s one piano I could play!  LOL

image

*

*

A reader in Indiana sent in this recipe to a cooking magazine.  Orange Lemon Cake sounds perfect for spring.  Smile

image

I like the Hoosier State.  The people are friendly and hospitable, just regular folks without attitudes.  Coastal types can get an attitude sometimes, you know?  Indiana people don’t have that.  They’re not the speediest drivers in the world either, and that’s okay because they’re not in a hurry.  Hitting IN traffic after racing along on Chicago expressways can be a bit jarring if you’re not expecting it, but then you realize you can relax.  Don’t worry, you’ll get there!

As always, click the pics for links.  Smile

Lobster rolls!  How’d you like these in your lunch?  I can hear Darc’s tummy right about now!  Winking smile

image

Did you know there’s even a Maine root beer?  I love root beer!  Now I have to try this!

image
Maine Root Root Beer.

*

*

Wow, vodka from potatoes?  What won’t those Mainers think of next?  I have to say, the Irish DNA in me is dying to try some of this, and I don’t even like hard liquor.

image

*

*

Syrup!  Mmmm, have some Maine syrup on your Maine blueberry pancakes … oh sorry, didn’t mean to get drool on you.

image

*

*

Frozen blueberry yogurt covered in chocolate.  *dreamy sigh*

Chocolate covered potato candy?  I so have to get to Maine!

image

*

*

Benne cookies – these are traditional to Charleston, made with sesame and sound yummy.  Smile

South Carolina liquor.  Now that’s some good drinks!  Southern tea vodka.  Wow!  I have to try some of that!  On the rocks, please!

image

*

Bacon!  Chocolate!  Chocolate covered bacon?  The blogger said it was a taste made in  heaven.  Now I’m curious.  How daring are you?  I’m usually not, but with this one, I’m willing to try it.  Smile

image

*

*

Of course there’s southern fried chicken!  Can’t you just feel the crunch just by looking at it?  I can smell it from here.   *drool*

image

*

No, not gumbo, but Frogmore Stew.  Check out the blogger’s recipe to see for yourself whether or not there’s actually any frogs in it.  Winking smile  And save me a bowl!

*

*

Oh my goodness, ribs!  South Carolina style!  Be quite my growling tummy!

image

A feast of local favorites!  Fresh caught and harvested.

image

*

Oh you knew I’d have something for dessert!  I could not resist the chocolate or the butterflies.  Maybe I’ll leave you some!  Winking smile

image

*

*

Snow ice cream.  This looks so cool and refreshing, I’m almost – but not quite – sad that we probably won’t have any more snow this season.  But if a storm does come up, I want to try this!

image

*

*

I’ve been near the Carolinas, but never actually in either of them.  I’ve heard much about Charleston and I’ve wanted to go there for a long time, and other places in SC.  How about you?  Have you been there?

I have been to West Virginia!  I think it is one of the most beautiful spots in our nation.  We traveled on the West Virginia Turnpike through mountains and forests that were gorgeous in winter – we could only imagine what their beauty must be in the other seasons.  We do intend to find out one day though.  Oh yeah we’re going back!  One day we’ll be making a road trip through that area.  Smile

You can see forever.  Smile
