Bouncer

I had to chuckle when I watched this video.  It reminded me so much of my daughter!  I’ve called her “Tigger” since she could walk because she bounced all over the place.

At 7 (and a half!) the bouncing continues.  She almost never simply walks anywhere.  She jumps, hops, or skips.  And when she’s not going from one place to another, she dances in place.  She’s my energetic, bouncing baby girl, and if I could bottle and sell that energy, I’d be a multi-billionaire.  🙂

Say What Now?

The other night I heard my son humming a little tune under his breath that was pretty familiar.  At first I figured it must be my imagination, then he started singing the words.

“I see a red door and I want to paint it black … .”

“Excuse me?!  How do you know that song?” I asked him.

“Let me guess, it’s one you already know.”

“Uh, yeah, it must have come out when I was about 2, so yes, you could say I already know it, Mr Smartypants.  Let me show you.”

So I did a quick YouTube search and then played the found video for him, complete in all its black and white glory.

My son watched it with me.  “He dances pretty weird, it’s kinda funny,” was pretty much all he found to say about it.

“Yeah, that’s what drugs will do to you,” said I.  “You should see him do his chicken dance, maybe I’ll find a video of that and show it to you one of these days.  Drugs are bad.”  As a parent, you have to take the teachable moments where you find them. Winking smile

“So tell me,” I asked, “How did you come across that song?  It shouldn’t be on your radar at all.”

He pointed me to the video where he heard it.  Sonic.  A silly Sonic the Hedgehog video.  Who knew?

The Life of Flowers

It’s no secret I have a gardener’s heart.  (I’m sure he wants it back by now!)  I just haven’t been able to put any gardening plans into action yet, but when I can, boy let me tell you!  I’m going to have the most amazing garden ever.  Smile

In the meantime, I love videos like this one.  Flowers are so happy and joyful, aren’t they?  Their beauty is a balm for my spirit.

Enjoy!

Put it on full screen if you can.  Smile

Star Spangled Banner

I suppose it’s not a secret how much I love our National Anthem.  And it’s Flag Day today so the National Anthem seems rather appropriate.  Smile

Anyway, I’m not a fan of singers who shred our Anthem.  They get up there and sing at football or baseball games, and they seem to think it’s all about them and how many extra undulations they can make their vocal chords go through, than how well they can honor the song.  It’s supposed to be about the song, not about them.

Donna Summer did an awesome version of the National Anthem.

Huey Lewis and the News did an excellent rendition.

Then I came across these kids in a post on iOwnTheWorld and was blown away by how talented they are.  I wanted to share their amazing vocal harmonizing with you. Smile  I suspect we’ll be hearing more from Daves Highway in the future.  Smile

Happy Flag Day!

Wild Things Have Gone

It’s sad news about Maurice Sendak’s passing.  Anyone who has kids probably knows who he was – the author of the famous children’s classic Where The Wild Things Are

My kids never really got into that one too much, but they (and I!) loved the Little Bear cartoons

In reading some news stuff, I came across this video – I can’t rightly call it a tribute, but it was doggone funny.  My son watched the entire thing and laughed the whole time.

I present to you, “Christopher Walken* reads Where The Wild Things Are.”  Enjoy!

*Some say it’s an impersonator.

So you had a bad day

clip_image001

Recently, my friend WIGSF did a post about happiness.  You can read about it hereSmile  He was talking about a song that made him happy, and it made me think about a particular song that my daughter sings that makes her happy too.  And drives me crazy.  And makes me happy.

See, it’s a silly song, a cute song, a fun song and she sings it with much joy and abandon.  It really makes her happy.

And that’s a beautiful thing.

But she plays it over and over and over and over.  That drives me crazy.  The song, not her singing!

I smile anyway, because I’d rather she sing and be happy.  That’s part of the mom rules.  Open-mouthed smile

On the plus side, she can carry a tune, unlike her mother, and that is also a beautiful thing.

This too shall pass, and I will miss it when it’s gone.  So for now, I’m going to enjoy the cute.  Smile

I’m pretty sure that once you hear it, you’ll have a happy too.  I recommend that you limit your listening to once a day, however.  Unless you’re 6.  Then you can listen to it however many times you like.  Winking smile

Where is the moment we needed the most
You kick up the leaves and the magic is lost
They tell me your blue skies fade to grey
They tell me your passion’s gone away
And I don’t need no carryin’ on

You stand in the line just to hit a new low
You’re faking a smile with the coffee to go
You tell me your life’s been way off line
You’re falling to pieces every time
And I don’t need no carryin’ on

Cause you had a bad day
You’re taking one down
You sing a sad song just to turn it around
You say you don’t know
You tell me don’t lie
You work at a smile and you go for a ride
You had a bad day
The camera don’t lie
You’re coming back down and you really don’t mind
You had a bad day
You had a bad day

Well you need a blue sky holiday
The point is they laugh at what you say
And I don’t need no carryin’ on

You had a bad day
You’re taking one down
You sing a sad song just to turn it around
You say you don’t know
You tell me don’t lie
You work at a smile and you go for a ride
You had a bad day
The camera don’t lie
You’re coming back down and you really don’t mind
You had a bad day

(Oh.. Holiday..)

Sometimes the system goes on the blink
And the whole thing turns out wrong
You might not make it back and you know
That you could be well oh that strong
And I’m not wrong

So where is the passion when you need it the most
Oh you and I
You kick up the leaves and the magic is lost

Cause you had a bad day
You’re taking one down
You sing a sad song just to turn it around
You say you don’t know
You tell me don’t lie
You work at a smile and you go for a ride
You had a bad day
You’ve seen what you like
And how does it feel for one more time
You had a bad day
You had a bad day

Had a bad day
Had a bad day
Had a bad day
Had a bad day
Had a bad day

Wednesday Wild

I busted up laughing over this video that I caught over on Blame it on the Voices.  First off, it was taken at the county jail pretty much down the street from me.  Okay, not that close, but close enough.  What cracked me up is that it’s so much the epitome of life around Chicagoland.  First, the jailbird tries to escape by jumping through the window – boiiinnnngg!  Not happening!  Idiot!  Typical Chicagoan.  The other thing that made me laugh was how stereotypical the cops are.  Note the girth.  On all of them.  And does the attitude just oooooooze through here or is it just me?  Typical Chicagoland cops.

Now you know why Krispy Kreme went out of business – the cops around here ate them out!  Good grief, these cops are appalling!  One word – BOWFLEX!

Vanessa is feeling snarky today, see how snarky Vanessa is.

The video description is in Spanish but this is what it says on Blame it on the Voices: (here’s the link if it doesn’t show up or play here – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nhSGMb7zibc )

“A Zion man who tried to escape police by jumping through a window learned the hard way that what happens on television is not always possible in real life.
Authorities said Travis Copeland, 19, bolted out of a Lake County felony courtroom Wednesday and ran across the courthouse skyway over Washington Street in Waukegan. The skyway connects courtrooms inside the Lake County Government Center to courtrooms at the Lake County jail.
With Lake County Sheriff’s deputies approaching and running out of options, Copeland – who was in court after violating a bond condition – tried to shoulder block his way through a window of the two-story skyway in an attempt to escape.
The bulletproof glass did not give way and Copeland, clearly staggering after hitting his head and shoulder, took two steps back and laid down on the floor with his hands spread over his head, and waited to be arrested.”

And can I just say how happy I am about Massachusetts electing a Republican Senator to take over the seat that Ted Kennedy … uh … vacated?  I am ecstatic and overjoyed!  Woo hoo!  *dances around the room*

Ahem!  Okay.  Back to proper decorum now.   We now resume our regular blogging.

~~~~~~~~~~
Okay, I’m done for today.  Tune in tomorrow for more As the Blog Turns.  Er, um, I mean Thursday Thankfulness.  😉
