What the?

I came across this article one night in my surfing.

Privacy is lacking in this Tokyo glass home

A three-story glass home in Tokyo – including split-level balconies without safety rails
– intentionally offers little privacy to its occupants.

In a connected world where privacy is a valued, but diminishing part of daily life, home remains a reliable refuge. But here’s one home that intentionally strips away even that illusion for its inhabitants. In this nearly transparent Tokyo home, known as House NA, outsiders can see everything and everyone inside.

Of course, all kinds of things went through my head.  Things like, “People in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones,” and silly stuff like that.  Naturally that flowed into, “I don’t do windows!”  And then, “Can’t you tell them I’m not home?”

The whole saying of “people in glass houses,” was such a silly notion when I was a kid – of course no one would actually live in a glass house!  That’s just an expression, duh!  But here we are now, with glass houses, under 1,000 sq ft of cramped glass house, no less, and once-silly notions are now reality.

Plus, check it out – no safety rails on those balconies.  Drugs, right?  Seriously, who does balconies without rails?

Count me out!  LOL  I do love privacy, especially my own!  And I’m terribly fond of safety, especially my kid’s.  I have such a hard time believing that someone actually paid for this.  Clearly (ha! no pun intended!) someone did though.  I think they should have called it the “Invisi-house.”

How about you?  Would you ever live in a glass house?

Weirdsday

image[2]I felt the bed dip, just a touch, when she climbed up.  That’s what woke me up from a dream, that sense of the bed giving under her weight, ever so slightly.  She’s only 6 after all.  I smiled.  Cuddle time!  My back was to her so she didn’t know I was awake, and I lay there pretending to still be asleep while she slowly made her way from the foot of the bed to my pillow, and my arms.

One little crawl, then another, and another, until I felt her lay down next to me and run a little finger like a tickle along my spine.  She does that sometimes, in her way of trying to wake me up gently.  I chuckled.  “Good morning, baby girl!” I whispered, turning over to wrap my arms around her and snuggle back to sleep.  I don’t know what it is, but when I cuddle my babies, my sleep is deep and sound.

As I rolled over, I lifted up the covers so she could get underneath.

But she wasn’t there.

No one was.

The bed beside me was empty.

I decided that was just as good a time as any to get up.

This Week’s Thoughts

funny pictures of cats with captionsThat’s how you know it’s a true friendship, because you don’t care that your shoulder’s fallen asleep.  Smile  And after nearly 4 decades of friendship, I think our respective shoulders probably fell asleep years ago!  I had an awesome visit with my friend.  And was truly blessed by his other friends that he’s been staying with.  Wonderful, gracious folks who felt like old friends the minute they walked in the door, even though I’d never met them before.  The way this whole visit worked out, well, I can only tell you that there are no accidents, Grasshopper.  Smile  It was so amazing the way it all unfolded.  Seriously. Awesome.

*****

She must have been drunk.  Honestly.  Who tries walking into the wrong apartment at 2 am?  This was way more bizarre than when the lost pizza guy tried to walk into our apartment a few years ago.   I probably should have called the cops, but when someone started trying to open my door, kept trying to turn the door knob, kept trying to force it open, well, I ran to wake up my husband.  I guess I trust him to protect me more than the police.

*****

My plan for the day is to get caught up on blogs!  And housework. But mostly blogs. Smile  Look out Google Reader, here I come!

*****

We are making progress on the edits!  Well, slow progress, but progress nonetheless!  I still think we’ll make the deadline, and if we don’t, I still think we’ll only miss it by a few days.

So, those are some of my thoughts.  What are some of yours?

Wednesday Weird

image

I am on the verge of something.  I don’t know what it is.  I’ve been having these strange dreams lately.  First I dreamt – 4 times the same night! – that I had an appt at 1:30.  That was a couple of weeks ago.  I really didn’t expect anything to happen that day at 1:30, but I have learned that numbers in my dreams don’t always mean what one would think they do.  This might mean months, or days, or weeks, or even something like Jan 30th.  Or any combination, like in 1 week and 30 days.  FireShot capture #110 - 'royal carribean_jpg (JPEG Image, 504x504 pixels)' - www_melbournegopwomen_org_royal%20carribean

Then, just the other night, I dreamt, also 4 times again, that company was coming.  It was different people in each of the dreams, sometimes it was one person, other times it was more like a little party, but always “Company’s coming!”

So … any of you planning on a visit or something?  😉

Honestly, it could mean anything.  I have no idea.  I have learned over the years though to pay attention and be alert when things like this happen to me.  So my eyes are open!

What about you?  Do weird things like that happen to you?  Little “future foretells” that come in out of the blue, and turn out to come true?

Monday Mayhem

There were so many things I was going to tell you about today, and now that I’ve sit down to blog about them, my brain blanked out.  *sigh*  Figures!  It felt like there was so much that happened over the weekend.  Not events or situations, but more like realizations and understandings.  Know what I mean?  The things that happened were more internal than external.  I should have taken notes.

I did discover, after doing a lot of research, that was I thought might be a potential medical condition really isn’t and is something easily treatable.  So that was a huge relief.

The kids did really well in school last week and the MiniNess is still in excited mode about it all.

Football started and the Patriots won!  Woo!

Thank goodness for NFL.com to get scores, because without TV, I can’t watch a single game.  :(

So I’m trying to get back into football mode on my football blog.

Cigarettes cost over $6 a pack here now, so it was good timing for me to quit when I did.  They were under $5 when I quit.

OH!  I remember what I wanted to tell you!  On Friday and Saturday afternoons, there several military helicopters that few overhead toward the Naval Base, over periods of several minutes.  It was the oddest thing.  The base tends to run their aircraft north-south, and we’re more west of the base, so we almost never get fly-over.  I searched the local press and found nothing.  I went to the base website and got nothing, no special events or anything like that.  It was just weird.  I mean, the big heavy choppers, a half dozen both days, spaced about 5 minutes apart.  For a moment there it almost felt like we were being invaded and our boys were gearing up.  Totally weird.

So that was kinda my weekend.  You?

Wednesday What The?

imageIt just feels like one of those weeks.  You’ve had them, right?  Where odd things seem to happen and things you expect, don’t?  Or things you don’t expect, do?

I got tagged by a local radio station the other day, bashing me for my Chicago Sucks page, while the post they tagged me in was a Philly Sucks post.  Did no one there catch the irony?  I was expecting to get tons of hate mail from it … but not even a single hit.  I guess no one reads the web pages from the local radio stations.  Heheheh.

Then, over on someone else’s blog, I left a comment about the post they’d put up, and another commenter threatened me!  I mean, WTH?  Actually called me names, called my husband and children names, said if they knew where I lived they’d call Social Services to come take my kids.  And I wasn’t even talking to them or about them.  So, why the hostility, you ask?  Because in my comment I’d said I hated a particular band.  And they went ballistic.  All caps and everything.  Seriously.  It was one of those kinds of things that makes you think someone missed their meds that day.  *eyeroll*

I did manage to find another movie I’ve been wanting to see for a long time at my library – Vanilla Sky.  I haven’t seen it since around 02 or 03, but I remember thinking I really enjoyed it, so I wanted to see it again.  Of course, the kids got THEM! again.  *sigh*  The ant fascination wears off eventually, right?  Right?!

My friend’s move last week was successful, so thank you for your thoughts and prayers on that one.  I’m so happy for her.  😀

So, what kind of odd stuff has happened to you lately?

In honor of Wombat Wednesday
