I don’t know how he does it.  I mean, I do, I see him do it all the time, but watching my husband write a story is a pretty cool thing.  Now that his computer is back up and running, he’s been trying to add to his latest story every day.  He just slaps words up like he’s made of them and I’ll cry or laugh or get mad – at the characters.

Me, I used to want to be a writer.  I long ago realized that my stories pretty much went: boy meets girl, they live happily ever after, amen.  I, uh, don’t like drama, apparently so much so that I can’t even make it up for fiction.  We won’t even go into how much I despise drama in my real life!

Anyway, tonight he sits down and starts typing away and a few minutes later states, “Another thousand!  Got it!”  Just like that *snap*.

He’s hoping to have it ready for Kindle by the end of the year, and at the rate he’s going, barring anymore computer hiccups, he should nail that no problem.  I’ll keep you posted, of course.  Smile

The Write Stuff

cool accessories - pen nibs - runway

So, how many pens nibs are too many, exactly?

We’re coming up on the end of the proofs for this most recent tech book my husband wrote.  You might remember the deadline he had to finish the thing a couple of months ago.  Recently the proofs have come back to us so we’ve been going over those and making sure everything is like it should be.  Thank goodness this editing team has done a much better job than the team on the last book!  I’ve hardly flagged any corrections to be made, and that’s a beautiful thing.  Smile  It’s almost completely done and then Darc can focus full time on his fiction and that is also a beautiful thing.  Smile

In other news, tomorrow should be the end of an era, of sorts, and I’m hoping to bid a not-so-fond farewell to my old adversary, Back Pain.  Wouldn’t that be awesome if it went away?

I might end up with a newer (to me anyway) stove.  We keep smelling gas – never a good sign.  They came today and tightened a connection, but I could still smell gas after the maintenance guys left.  I’ll see how it is tomorrow, but I think something’s wrong with the thermostat inside the oven itself, and not the connection to the gas supply between the oven and the wall.  We’ve had it for 5 years and I don’t know how long it was used before we moved in.  It’s probably time for a replacement anyway.

So that’s my news.  How’s by you?

So far

So good!  We haven’t come across anything that really needs addressing so far in the proofs we’ve gone through.  Looks like this team has done a great job.  The book looks almost identical to the text Darc submitted.  Last time, the team that first got a hold of his manuscript practically re-wrote the entire thing.  What a nightmare that was!

This time around, different team, different results!  It’s been painless so far, just a little time consuming reading the text over again but otherwise, I’m really pleased at this point.

I think that’s doing great at nearly half-way through!

Elsewhere in the DarcHouse, my son starts his next year’s curriculum on Monday so we’re gearing up for that.

How’s by you?

funny pictures - You realize it's just the same 26 letters being rearranged, don't you?

They may be all the same 26 letters, but I have to make sure they’re all arranged in the right order, Mr. Smart-alec Kitteh.

Anyway, yep, the proofs for my husband’s most recent non-fiction project are in.  This time, they’re in digital format.  The nice thing about that is I can adjust the size if I need to.  Damn aging eyes!

Hopefully, this editing team did better than the last one.

I’ll keep you posted.

But then, you knew that, didn’t you?  Smile

In other news, I pulled something in my back.  Damn aging back!  *sigh*

That’s what’s going on with me.  Anything new going on with you?

The End

snoopy_happy_dance_2Guess what?  It’s done!  The writing project my husband has been working on these many months is done!  Finis!  Over!  Finished!  The END!  Woooo!

I was a little surprised to discover today, going back through some older files, that he started writing on this subject for the other series this publisher puts out, way back in Sept of last year.  Ten whole months ago!  So 3 mos on that project, then revisions and going over the proofs, then on the heels of that one going to print, getting the project for this other series they have and doing the same subject for this one for another 3 months, and wow, that’s a long time to be working on saying the same thing in 2 different ways!

But he did it!  He banged it out over the holiday weekend and even managed to bring it in before deadline.  So, he’s done writing, and I’m done editing and doing the clean-up and uploading and researching stuff.  Not that my job was nearly as much “heavy lifting” as his was, but I helped some.  Smile

No more deadlines!  At least for awhile.  I don’t know if he’ll take any more projects since he really wants to breathe for a bit and focus on his fiction work.  I couldn’t be happier about that.  And it was soooooo much fun to watch a movie on Monday and not feel that pressure to get back to working on the project.  We ended up watching something called The Broken.  It was really quite good.  I don’t know if it’s listed as horror or thriller, but there wasn’t any real gore to speak of.  You know how in Psycho you see the blood go down the drain?  Would you consider that gore?  If that was a 1, this movie might be a 2 or 3.  But the tension build-up was done very well.  Even my daughter said, “Why do they play the scary music but then nothing happens?”  I’d just been thinking the same thing and had to laugh at her perceptiveness for picking that up at 5.  Watch out, she’s a future movie critic in the making!  LOL

While our town didn’t have fireworks again for the 3rd year in a row, the local amusement park DID.  And they rocked.  So the kids and I were able to run out when we heard them start up and watch them from the parking lot here.  It was awesome.  Man I adore fireworks!  Especially Independence Day fireworks.  Open-mouthed smile

Did I mention?  I think I tweeted but I don’t think I posted it here – the MiniNess lost her 1st tooth over the weekend.  She was so excited!  Daddy plucked a dollar out of his wallet and handed it to her.  She’s clueless about what money is.  For now.  Winking smile

So now the holiday and its long weekend is over and the book is done and life can go back to normal now.  Back to housework and school, back to eating right and working out and all that fun stuff.

And how was your weekend?

Bad book!

funny dog pictures - Bad book! Bad! Bad! Bad!Actually, it’s turning out to be a pretty good book.  Smile  Darc’s, that is.

As for the picture here, I think there might be sales potential in one called, “Dog Owner Training for Dummies.”

Just sayin’.  Winking smile

We’re closing in on the deadline, and we’ve got our groove thing on.  He writes, I clean up the text and upload it to the publisher.  When I say clean up the text, that’s how I describe making sure the documents are formatted according to the publisher guidelines, that sort of thing.  They want everything a certain way for their editing team and printer.  They want it in a certain font, double spaced, stuff your high school English comp teacher would be proud of.  Winking smile  I figure the more of that kind of “legwork” I can do for Darc, the more he can focus on doing the actual writing.  You should have seen him this weekend!  His fingers were flying over the keyboard!  I love the clickety sound it makes.  Smile

I am so looking forward to this book finally being finished.  Tech-y types of manuals are cool and all, but I miss the fiction.

So that was a big portion of my weekend, helping my husband on this book project.  Plus, a decent movie called The Vanishing or something like that.  It was pretty good.

imageWhat an interesting weekend!  Well.  Sort of.

The KnytLite is still sick.  He is getting better though, but it’s a slow process.  Slow if you’re 9.  According to him, he’s “been like this forever, and I’m probably going to die like this too!”  Yeah, no sense of drama in my child.

Unfortunately, the MiniNess did come down with it as well.  She, too, has had this forever and will also die from it.  What one says, the other mimics.  But, I know she’s sick when she stops bouncing.  I don’t call her my Tigger baby for nothing!  So to see her dozing off at odd hours during the day, lethargic and not wanting to play games, I know she’s been hit hard.

Me, I thought I was going to catch something too.  My ear started bothering me yesterday and I started to freak out a little.  I had an ear infection – my only one ever – about 20 years ago, and it was one of the most painful things I’ve ever endured, next to labor.  My ear drum burst and I never have recovered 100% of my hearing in that ear either.  I felt that due to the sense of vertigo I was experiencing last night, along with the watery sensation in my ear, and the tinnitus, made it the perfect time to panic.  I took some meds and went to bed right after dinner for a long winter’s nap.

It helped.  I was still woozy for the rest of the night, but this morning when I got up again, the weird feeling in my ear seemed to be gone.  I feel like I dodged a bullet.

Oddly enough, Darc seems to be the one avoiding illness this time.  Usually he’s the 1st one down so this is a nice change for us.  Things seem to hit him the hardest, so if he can avoid this altogether, more reason to be thankful.

In the meantime, Darc and I have been trying to chug along on the latest book project.  I think it’s going pretty well.  He’s not sure we’ll make the deadline.  We’ll see.  Just over a month to go and we’re perhaps 30-40% done.  We do seem to be able to kick it into high gear and work well under pressure though.  Usually.  Sometimes.  Smile  I’m confident!
