Well, it looks like not only are furniture staples going extinct, but apparently, I’m a dinosaur.  All the things going away are the things I’ve always wanted!  Who decided fashion could change before I was able to get it?  I cry foul!  Harumph.  I’m getting a rolltop desk and a fancy wall clock one day anyway.  Neener on “style.”

What got me was the line about the adjustable bed and mattress. That stopped me cold! Adjustable bed? In a coffin? What the heck do they expect the corpse to do? Sit up and read?!

I’m pretty sure my husband, and WIGSF will love this one though. I mean, bacon! Seriously, what’s not to love? Aside from the adjustable bed.

I was watching this video the other day – thanks to Moonbattery for the link! – and it got me to thinking.  Dennis Prager talks about gratitude, and you’ll have to watch the whole video to see what he means.  (It’s not even 5 min.)  I was reminded how important thankfulness is, and specifically for me.  I’m going to try to go back to doing the thankfulness posts, at least once a month, if not once a week.

Unrealized blessings.  That’s a tough one, isn’t it?!  I much prefer the realized ones, heh.   

‘Tis the season for gratitude and thankfulness and I was looking for sayings about those things when I came across this quote that made me pause.  Thanksgiving Day is our homage to our past, to our nation’s beginnings, to the hope the Pilgrims had to brave the Atlantic Ocean and start a new life. 

But it’s also good to be thankful for the future, I think.  Thankful for the good things that you believe will come your way.  It gives us hope, does it not? 

Thankful, not just for yesterday and today, but for tomorrow as well.

Did you laugh?  When you realized what her costume was, I mean. 

I’m just trying to figure out if I’m too sensitive.  I probably am, but I was curious about your thoughts. 

For the record, I didn’t laugh.  I felt very sorry for the woman wearing it, especially seeing the look on her face.  She’s not laughing either, at least, not for the picture. 

If you laughed, would you still laugh if it was your mother, or sister, or daughter wearing this costume?  If not, what changed your mind?

Kindling

Nope, not the firewood, but the e-reader!  Of course, you knew that. 

I was reading this article today about the Kindle and all the things it can do that Amazon doesn’t really advertise.  You can read it here: Things Amazon Should Tell Us About the Kindle.

The Kindle does have a lot of cool features.  I decided to go with a tablet for a lot of reasons.  I like that it’s backlit.  I love the swipe.  I love that I can do so much more with it than read.  Nothing like reading in bed, and then remembering that I forgot to add something to a grocery order after the computer is off for the night.  With my tablet, all I need to do is click the grocery app and add whatever it is I need, no getting out of bed, waiting to boot up the computer, then the browser and all that.  Just a couple of clicks on my tablet and voila!  Order updated. 

I know, it seems like such a luxury to have a grocery delivery service.  But when you realize that I don’t have a car, a service like that is more necessity than luxury.  Plus, what I pay in delivery fees is less than what I’d pay for gas and insurance and car maintenance, so not that big a luxury after all. 

We got my husband a tablet for Father’s Day.  He doesn’t seem to like his as much.  I am flabbergasted.  I am aghast.  I am appalled.  How can he not love it as much as I do?  Okay, just kidding.  Different strokes and all that.  When he’s ready to read, all he wants is to read, he doesn’t want all the things that come with a tablet.  That’s why he has a computer.  He’s more … compartmentalized, than I am, I guess would be a good way to describe it. 

One of the cool features that a Kindle has, that the Kindle app on a tablet does not, is text-to-speech.  (Those Amazon bigots!)  For someone like my husband, who loves to read but suffers from tired eyes in the evening, being able to hear a book would be such a boon.  A couple of years ago he borrowed a spoken book from the library, and really enjoyed that.  Except for the batteries in my little portable CD player, finding earphones that were comfortable, etc.  If he had a Kindle, all he’d have to do is hit play.  How awesome would that be?

Now, for all the years we’ve been married, my husband has refused me the chance to get him a birthday gift.  I’ve always tried to honor his wishes.  Mostly.    But this year, I think I’m going to put my foot down and get him a Kindle.  His birthday isn’t for a few months yet, so I have time to save up for it.  I think he’ll love it, don’t you? 

But don’t say anything to him about it – it’ll be our secret.

The Nielsen Company, which takes TV set ownership into account when it produces ratings, will tell television networks and advertisers on Tuesday that 96.7 percent of American households now own sets, down from 98.9 percent previously. via tv-ownership-nytimes: Personal Finance News from Yahoo! Finance.	It’s not the TV I  object to – I love TV.  It’s the enormously high cable bills I’m no longer willing to pay.  Count me among those finding alternative forms of entertainment.

Games.	PlayStation Network users beware!  I know they were down for something like 10 days.  Heh, it was probably cable hackers getting even for those of us finding alternative forms of entertainment.
