Tuesday Tootsies

It’s a tough economy out there right now.  No one knows this better than me.  Believe me, I’ve had my moments of feeling like even if all else failed, I could at least find some kind of creative expression and shoe satisfaction.  With that in mind, I’ve put together a collection of shoes for those who are on a super tight budget.  Grab your magic markers, I’m right there with you!  And if your budget isn’t quite this tight, you have much to be grateful for.  🙂

I like pop.  I hate how it makes me feel.  But at least I know if I get the stuff on sale for 88¢, I can always kill 2 birds with one stone and use the empty bottles for shoes.  Might be just a hair slippery on the ice in winter though!

Those leftover cardboard boxes just might come in real handy.

If I run out of pop bottles and cardboard, there’s always the old standby, duct tape!

No matter where we end up though, the place still needs to be kept clean.  So we’ll sweep …

And mop …

Make sure the laundry gets done.

And somebody will have to take out the trash – might as well be me!

{Seriously, can you believe these Alexander McQueen designer shoes made out of trash bags probably go for around $1200?!?!}

All joking aside, poverty isn’t pretty or fun.  If you have some shoes you can’t or don’t wear anymore, maybe you could donate them to your local homeless shelter.  Then you can be sweet to your feet and someone else’s too.  😀

Enjoy the last day of August and as always, click the pics for links!  🙂

Manic Monday

imageYou know, I was obsessed Sunday with getting through my Reader.  I had a couple hundred things collected in there, things I wanted to read, or skim at the very least.  It became my mission since I can’t even recall the last time my Reader was empty.

But I was bound and determined to get through it yesterday.  I braved the numb-butt.  That poor old broken student chair was not designed for mom-butt or dad-butt and so gives us a bad case of numb-butt, you see.

And so, I did it!  I got through all those items!  I shut down that sad old laptop that is so jerry rigged just to keep it running it’s not even funny anymore and went to get in the shower in the still small hours of the morning.  I was so proud of myself!  I did it!  I got my Reader down to zero, completely empty for the 1st time in months!  I was mentally patting myself on the back when I realized I’d forgotten to get a Monday post prepared.  I am such a dork.  *sigh*

I had a great weekend.  Nope, nothing happened really.  I just keep waking up with a song in my heart and joy in my soul.  I had an awesome dream on Sunday, too.  Nothing has really changed, but somehow life is good in a way I can’t even dare to explain.  I’m just trying to roll with it, because frankly, it’s like nothing I’ve ever experienced before.  Believe me, I struggle to maintain the façade of “easy-going.”  Yeah, I know, I fail – but I do try, honest!  :D

And how was your weekend?

Friday Funnies

How to Stop Church Gossip

Mildred, the church gossip, and self-appointed monitor of the church’s morals, kept sticking her nose into other people’s business.  Several members wanted to confront her but feared her enough to maintain their silence.

She made a mistake, however, when she accused Frank of being an alcoholic after she saw his old pickup parked in front of the town’s only bar one afternoon.
She emphatically told Frank (and several others) that every one seeing it there WOULD CERTAINLY KNOW WHAT HE WAS UP TO!

Frank, a man of few words, stared at her for a moment and just turned and walked away.  He didn’t explain, defend, or deny.  He said nothing.  Later that evening, Frank quietly parked his pickup in front of Mildred’s house … walked home … and left it there all night.

(You gotta love Frank!)

Thursday Thankfulness

DVD-Disk-icon

I like movies.  Always have.  Always wished I could watch more.  Used to want to be a film critic.  Well, I guess I AM a film critic, I just don’t get paid for my opinion.  ;)  But there was always TV … until a few months ago.  Living on a tight budget requires sacrifices and cable was one.

But we discovered movies at the library when we went to check out some books.  Movies?  At the library?  Who knew?  And free too!  Even I can’t argue with that deal!

Admittedly our library doesn’t have the latest and greatest movies.  The most recent movies it has are probably 6-12 months old.  But this time has given me a chance to watch some old favorites again, and to catch some movies I never would have caught before.  Like the one we watched tonight called, “Perfume.”  Yeah, I can hear all the males rolling their eyes, thinking “chick flick!”  Well let me set you straight on that score.  I’m not really a “chick flick” movie watcher.  Yes, there are some period pieces I like, like Restoration.  I love costumes.  But I hate romantic comedies.  To prove my point, a few weeks ago when we were browsing the library shelves, my son pointed to a shelf and asked why we didn’t look at the movies on that one.  “Oh, those are comedies,” I explained.  KnytLite asked, “What’s a comedy?”

Yeah, I bit my tongue on all the smart aleck answers that rolled around in my head.  It’s just that I’ve found that my idea of funny and Hollywood’s idea of funny are in 2 different universes and never the twain shall meet, as the saying goes.  So I stick with drama and action type movies, a touch of sci-fi – I am a Trekker and X-filer afterall.  Darc likes horror and then we get family type movies for the kids.  And we all sit and watch them together, as a family.  Most of the time.

So today I am thankful for our DVD player that enables us to watch movies together as a family.  🙂

By the way, that movie Perfume was about a serial killer, and starred Alan Rickman and Dustin Hoffman, set in the 18th century.  You know how I am about serial killers.  How could I resist?  😉

What are you thankful for today?

Weary Wednesday

image_thumbI’m here, I’m here, don’t mark me absent!  I was so tired last night that I decided to do my post today in “real time” rather than get a post prepped early.  I didn’t even get to my Reader until the wee hours.  We did some running around yesterday and got a lot of things done.  So I’m pleased about that.  And my kids will have shoes and clothing and coats through the Winter.  :)  Disobedient kids – I tell them not to grow anymore but do they ever listen?  😉

I was reading over on Mapelba’s blog about her recent experiences with a guy at a cafe she likes to frequent, who sounds like he might be one of those creepy stalker types.  It’s made me think of times from my past where someone didn’t seem capable of taking a hint.  I wrote about a couple of light-hearted ones a few years ago in a post called I Hate Gorilla Masks! if you were interested in reading about my own experiences.  Marta’s story drives home to me that we can never take our safety for granted.  You just never know where or when someone will get some maggot into their head that they have rights with you that don’t exist anywhere but in their own deluded mind.  Marta seems to have to situation under control and hopefully the guy has gotten the hint now, but check out her last couple of blog entries and see if he doesn’t make your “creep-dar” go off too.

So glad to see that What About Bob? is back up and running again.  Speaking of maggots in the brain, for some reason, WordPress shut him down yesterday for a TOS violation – when there never was a TOS violation.  How stupid is that?  And they never notified him either.  What I’d like to know is what caused WP to do that?  I sure hope WP isn’t going the Blogger route and just automatically shutting down blogs if they get that “report as spam” button clicked, instead of doing at least a modicum of investigation first.  That just puts too much power in the hands of jerks and others who use to it try to shut down a blogger’s free speech.

Anyway, I’m off to try to think of gratitude.  :)  Have a great evening!
