Creature Feature

See this? LOL This is me and Darc watching one of his horror movies together. It’s a perfect illustration of why he mostly watches horror movies by himself. 😀

While he was on vacation this past several days, I made sure he got to watch a lot of movies.  He loves them!  Somehow, watching the creepy, scary stuff relaxes him.  Me, I jump through the ceiling – which is half his entertainment, I’m sure.  :roll:  I guess it takes his mind off day-to-day stuff in a way that other movies can’t.  Maybe it’s the analysis factor.  We just can’t watch movies – we have to dissect them, figure out the plot, try to guess the “whodunit” part, all that kind of stuff.  But he doesn’t seem to do that with horror movies.  I suppose, when it’s a werewolf movie, there’s simply not a lot of guesswork involved, not a lot of plot, so his brain can just veg for a while. 

Hopefully he’s nice and relaxed as he heads back to work today.  He got a ton of movies in, this vacation.  Me, I realized I need to dust the cobwebs off my ceiling.

Back to Normal

This Christmas season was so wonderful and amazing, it’s a bit hard to see it end.  My beloved was home on vacation for nearly 2 weeks, I gave the kids some time off from homeschool, the food was great, and the time together as a family was relaxing and joyful.  Who wouldn’t want that to continue?

Alas, the daily grind has its demands too, and they must be met.  In a way, that’s a good thing because daily life makes those holiday times that much more precious.

Our little Christmas tree is giving up the ghost.  We noticed just before New Year’s that half the lights weren’t working anymore.  It has served us well for 8 Christmases now, so it’s time to let it go to that Christmas tree heaven.  Kohl’s had a sale on little pre-lit trees so I grabbed a couple – get this – a green one for the boys and a pink one for the girls!  I’ve always wanted a pink Christmas tree!  Next year I’ll finally have one!  LOL  It’s just so me. 

Darc and I decided to purchase our own domains also.  We’ve already put some work into them – I spent most of New Year’s weekend working on mine, but to be brutally honest, there are a lot of things about them we don’t care for.  We will surely change hosts in the coming months once we find a service that offers everything we’re looking for.  Now there’s a task not for the faint of heart!  Yikes!  Have you seen the sheer volume of hosting services out there?  Dang!  I confess that I love WordPress though, so this isn’t an easy move for me. 

Did you have a good Christmas?  Have you had a good start to the new year?  Are you feeling optimistic?  I hope so.  I believe good things are in store. 

Bonehead

Ah, the first day after the end of vacation – always a bit traumatic, isn’t it?  I know my beloved is doing his best to get back in the groove, as we are here at home.  We had a whole week off!  No school, no work, nothing but kicking back and playing.    It was awesome!

Our Thanksgiving was good – we went with an “Americana” theme this year, and that was fun.  Easy too! 

The only downer was that the kids got sick right on Thanksgiving!  Thankfully, not bad sick, just a slight cold kind of thing.  They were tired and a little stuffy but nothing major.  They slept more and that was about it. 

How was your holiday?  Did you travel?  Have people travel to you? 

I did something crazy.  Well, kind of bonehead crazy.  Remember the neighbor with the howling dog?  The loud neighbor with the howling dog?  I did something ….  See, every once in a while I get a big ham for dinner when it’s on sale and it lasts a while, but when I have just the big bone left, I always feel so guilty just throwing it away.  We don’t have a dog anymore to give such treats to, and I haven’t been able to toss a leftover bone in the garbage in almost 6 years now without having that sad little twist in my heart.  And as I was cleaning off the bone from the last ham I had, it went through my head that there was a dog upstairs who would love a juicy ham bone like that.  Oh, you should have heard the argument that went on in my head!  But I hate that dog!  But the dog isn’t annoying on purpose.  I should poison the bone and leave it out.  C’mon now, you know you couldn’t do that to an animal, no matter how annoying they might be.  I wish Michael Vick would come take that dog for a walk!  You’re so mean to think that way!  You know you don’t mean that.  Well, I might not mean it but it feels good to say it!  If you don’t mean it you shouldn’t be thinking it either. 

And on it went. 

Yeah, it’s pretty ugly in there. 

In the end, I decided to try to do the nice thing.  My prayer is that I can fake it ‘til I make it, and that my insides catch up quick to my outside.  *sigh*  Change my heart, Lord, because I really don’t like that dog! 

I wrapped up the bone and left it by their door as a gift to their dog.  I could hear the neighbor exclaim when she saw it when she took him out for his morning constitutional.  At 5:30.  (I did say loud, remember!)  “Oh look, puppeh!  A treat for you!”  I did not say in the note that it was from me.  Let them wonder.  Maybe they’ll think it was the magic bone fairy.  

 

Vacation

 

Yay, it’s vacation time!  First time in a decade!  And with Darc on vacation, that means I get a vacation too, of sorts.  Of course, I still have to do housework, but I don’t have to do school.  Sleep in!

Today we just hung out, kicking back and relaxing, and went to the store to get some Thanksgiving Day dinner stuff. 

I think I like this kind of vacation best.  No worry about travel plans, airlines, or driving and gas prices.  No concern about hotels, and making sure we brought enough clothes.  There’s a real sense of relaxation, like a really long weekend, and I love that.  It’s just hanging out, being a family, without stress.  What could be better than that?
